Movie... editing... software. lol

Does your computer have a generic program like Windows Movie Maker?
It's better than being ripped off with the expensive ones.

I can help you,
I've been making movies for YouTube for a good 4 years now.

Use Windows Movie Maker 2.6 that's pretty basic.

Although, It crashes alot and it isn't the best but it's free.
If you don't want to use that, I suggest downloading Windows Live Movie Maker.

This is a 'cleaner' and 'stripped down' version of the original as it looks better and you can actually save movies in High Definition which is brilliant however:

Effects, Audio Editing, Loading, Transitions etc
Are all a problem in the latest version.

Both of those versions don't work for me anymore, and I'm not the only one.
I find alot of people give them bad reviews because they basically suck but are easy to use at first, until they begin crashing.

If you don't want to use those two, I suggest jumping to the one I now use.
It's called ImToo Movie Maker 6.

It's very useful and clean and it just seems better, I haven't tried saving on it yet so I don't know what a finish product looks like on it yet but you know, It's not bad from what I've seen.

The only 2 Problems are that you can't control where you place Audio, which is a great shame.

And the effects are very dull and boring.

Those are the 3 I recommend if it's your first time, there's always Sony Vegas but that's more for Professionals, like Film Editors.

I'll give you the download links for the 3 I Mentioned:

Windows Movie Maker should already be on your computer

Windows Live Movie Maker

Download ImToo Movie Maker 6

I just noticed from giving you that, that Windows Live Movie Maker has a new version out.
The one I have is 2009 and they appear to have a 2011 version out, I wonder if it's going to be any better, Might give it a go myself.

But yeah, Good Luck

thanks for the quick reply

wow you type even faster than me!!!

I do have windows movie maker, will this be able to add audio and subtitles?

most of it will be cutting scenes and splicing together and rearranging scenes, the most difficult will be adding audio to characters and subtitling them.

I looked at it just now and it does have scene transition which sounds good

Yeah the 2.6 Version is perfect really for adding subtitles and working with Audio, Out of the 3 I mentioned, that's the best for adding text and messing about with Audio

How are you getting ripped off exactly? Movie Maker is a very, very basic software package. That's fine if you work on very, very basic projects but if you are attempting something more elaborate you are ripping yourself off using Windows Movie Maker.

I obviously don't know the full nature of your project, OP, but in most cases to people doing simple things I would still reccomend to download a more professional video editing software as long as they have no qualms about illegal downloading. Final Cut Pro is the industry standard but only runs on Mac. Sony Vegas is every bit as good as it. It's a quick download through torrent and it's surprisingly easy to use. Sure you can split clips, add audio and the like in Windows Movie Maker but you can do it much faster, to a much higher quality standard, with far more precision control in Vegas - especially when it comes to quickly doing things on the timeline which is where most of the work will be done if you are simply recutting an existing movie.

Windows Movie Maker.

Sony Vegas.

EDIT : Oh yeah if you are cutting an entire movie though it could be difficult unless you have a monster CPU and a lot of extra Hard Drive space. Working with large volumes of media on video editors will put a huge strain on your system. I wouldn't even attempt to render it in High Def on a standard power computer. You could be waiting quite a long time for it to complete and the preview window will be victim to frame dips as you are working. You could in theory do it in 15 minute stages in seperate projects or something like that then connect all the pieces together at the end.

See I would love to give Sony Vegas another go but then I read this part, I'm running very, very low on Disk Space.

I wish the actual layout of SV looked abit better though, Windows Movie Maker isn't perfect but it's much easier to find your way about where as Sony Vegas is alot harder to get use to, Although I adore videos made on Sony Vegas.
