Eastenders icon Sharon Watts is set to make a sensational return to the BBC1 soap as Letitia Dean is reprising her role as the show favourite later this year. Sharon, who was in the show from its’ first episode in 1985 as the rebellious adoptive daughter of Den and Angie Watts has been the centre of many memorable storylines over the year most notably the storyline which saw her embarking on an affair with husband Grant’s brother Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Letitia who last starred as Sharon in 2006 has been treading the boards in various stage producitions since leaving the show but has said various times that she wouldn’t rule out returning to the show as Sharon. And it seems that this statement came true as confirmation came today that she will be reprising the role with Dean commenting: “I am really looking forward to being part of the EastEnders team again, as it has always been very close to my heart. I cannot wait to work with my old colleagues and see what is in store for Sharon.”

Meanwhile, executive producer for the show, Bryan Kirkwood added: ”I’m thrilled that Letitia is coming back home… Sharon is a real favourite amongst EastEnders’ fans and I for one can’t wait until she arrives back in the summer.” It is expected that she will return with Dennis Jr. the child she was pregnant with when adoptive brother and husband Dennis Rickman was murdered and she fled Walford.

I like Sharon and Letitia so this is good news and they've been trying to get her back for ages now.

Brilliant news, I knew they'd try and get one of the all time legends back when I read that Pat was to die, glad they went with Sharon. Great character and I can't wait for her comeback.

I can't really see where she will fit in now but it will be good to see how things develop, I liked her character.

Good news, but what on earth could they possibly do with her? Between her and Ronnie we've had all "damaged blonde" stories possible.

If they bring her back fresh and new with a new family perhaps or something then great it's just what the show needs, but the show's gotten so bad I wouldn't put it passed them to stick her in another affair with Phil or something. If so, I'd rather she remained a memory.
