Exclamation Age on the internet.

Most websites seem to have the rule of being over the age of 13 to sign up, do you think this age is appropriate or do you think it doesn't stop people of a younger age signing up anyway? Did you sign up for things that you were too young for in the past?

I definitely think age 13 is the right age, but I think it should be more strictly enforced, because children are using the internet and younger and younger ages every year. I think there should be some kind of code that comes with the internet installation that you have to provide when signing up for websites, news letters or buying things online, then the parents could moderate that part of internet usage with ease, obviously if they trust the child is mature enough they could give them access to it when they get to the right age. It might sound silly to some but it randomly popped into my head.

Well these parents need to stop trying their best to make their kids miserable. It's not the end of the world if a 11/12 year old signs up to something that requires you to be 13

LOL making kids miserable. If not being allowed onto FB etc makes a kid miserable then that kid needs help.

You obviously know nothing about children and are just speaking from your own experiences. I just want to know what people think of it in general.

I sometimes think 13 is too young to be signed up to certain things online if I'm honest, some of the stuff I have seen under 15/16's post actually make me feel uncomfortable and I really wouldn't be happy if I found out my child was posting or discussing things of the same nature, that said I guess it all depends on the person in questions maturity levels too.

Its ultimately up to parents to monitor what their kids are doing online, what they are signing up to etc, obviously certain websites have age guidelines and that in place but they can't always enforce because they have no way of proving users ages.

I agree with you completely, some of the things I have seen young people post about have shocked me beyond belief, I am sorry to use him as an example because he is a nice kid, but when Cuda made that "Celebrity Nudes" thread, I felt highly uncomfortable, because although there was already a thread like that allowed on the forum somehow, just the fact that he was so young and could access that information kind of opened my eyes to it. I'm not saying his parents should be locked up or anything though.

Yeah, I don't think websites should be given more responsibility but I think parents should get more of a say in what goes on with the internet they are providing.

(I'm sorry Cuda, I love you really. )

Lmao if you think 13 is 'too young' for that jfc it's perfectly normal at that age when you're going through puberty to do stuff like that stop being so patronising to Cuda

Parents need to start monitoring their kids more,

in my opinion no one under 18 needs to be on the internet unless school related. The internet is already crappy enough, without a bunch of annoying kids on it (reference point: this forum)
