Default Pride Weekend: Do you agree with it?

Hey guys.

As many of you all know I'm gay, (i know, shock) but most of my friends say that I'm really intolerant of other gay people, and when i think about it their a little bit right.

It's not like the whole 'only gay in the village thing' I just think sometimes gay people feel as though they need to act like the stereotypical version of 'gay' and that bugs me a lot.

Like this whole pride thing, I go because I think its a great place to meet new people (of all kinds) and just to enjoy time with yourself, can be totally yourself and feel equality of all minorities etc etc etc, i agree with what it stands for but i dont agree with how they do it.

All it says to me is 'gays are the best blablabla' and people go because 'they love gay people' and that just pisses me off. How can you love ALL gay people? how can you love ALL black people? how can you love ALL muslims? you dont know ALL the people that fit into these groups. To a normal eye, all it says is that all gays love to dress up in drag and perform, all gays love to wear all certain clothing and walk down the street. It just plays on the stereotype that is given to them by some member of the society and isnt that what we are supposed to be changing? If theres a gay pride, there should be a pride for every minority ever to exist so why just single out one pride and thats that?

I just dont agree with how they go about it, the concept is good and all but yeah.

Saying this im a bit of a hypocrit because i go but meh, oh well ahah..

Your thoughts?
x

Don't agree or disagree with it. If a group of people want to get together, by all means do it.

Provided it's legal, of course.

I agree with what you're saying completely.

I get that gays still aren't accepted fully (it'll still be a long while in my opinion) and I'm all for equality but these 'LGBT' nights they have everywhere in bars and clubs is not equality. People who attend these and demand equality are hypocrites, there'd be uproar if there was a straight night somewhere (there probably is I just haven't heard of one) and then comes the argument 'EVERYDAY IS ****ING STRAIGHT DAY'

When it wasn't as accepted in mainstream society then I can see why the pride marches and such were a way of raising awareness, expressing individuality and peacefully protesting for change... And in a way that's happened give or take a few ignorami and the odd UKIP supporter, so yeah.. now it's like ok you're gay big deal

a) there'd be uproar because heterosexuality has never and will never be a minority cause
b) last time I checked, heterosexual folk were allowed to attend LGBT/pride movements.

i mean... this is the same kind of BS you read when dumbass white guys moan "why don't we have white pride!?!?!?!?!"

i've had this discussion with you before conor and i told you i think they're more about celebrating gay rights history and finding solidarity rather than anything else, and i see absolutely nothing wrong with that. maybe because i'm from a really old, ageing, slightly-bigoted community with no prominent gay scene... but i'd enjoy such events I think.

Never been and probably wouldn't go to it but I have no problem with it. It's there for a reason and anything that helps gay rights is a good things.

Agree with that, think people get a bit too caught up on the whole 'pride' part of the name
