Default UK Muslims helping jihadis, says Cameron

  • Cameron will urge families to oppose ideology driving young people to ISIS
  • Will ask parents to stop blaming police for failing to stop Syria-bound teens
  • Some Muslims are guilty of normalising hatred of western values, he warns
  • This 'quiet condoning' makes it easier for violent extremism to take hold

The Prime Minister will also call for parents to stop blaming police and the security services for failing to prevent British teenagers heading to Syria.

Parts of the Muslim community are guilty of normalising hatred of democracy and western values, he warns – making it easier for violent extremism to take hold.

Maybe, and even though what he is saying is clearly partly true ("look at the parents" is always my first port of call when it comes to trying to understand ANY violent or criminal behaviour, and there are invariably identifiable reasons) it is an issue that needs to be handled very very carefully.

It doesn't matter if he's "right" if all he's doing in further alienating sections of society. It will only cause further division and make the problem worse. He is a ****ing tool.

This is a massive risk, he is putting a lot of pressure on communities here and risking alienating British Muslims further.

I feel and fear he is right in what he says.

The time for pussyfooting around and walking on eggshells as to this issue should be over.
I have felt while there is condemnation as to those getting involved in terrorist activities from their religious leaders, it can come across as just lip service.

Far more stricter observance is needed.
I am with David Cameron on this one.

he's right, british people have got to stop living in a pacifist dream, we need to stop pandering to people who refuse to intergrate to are way of life, I mean muslim preachers who brainwash people to kill and hate, and can not be deported from the country, because of there human right's, all the good they do is live in a life of luxury, thanks to the hard working people who have to pay so much, to not go homeless, some area's of england are no-go zones, now and this puts, a big question to a government that turned a blind eye to it for years,

He has a point but there is the danger in this exacerbating the problem if it all it does is further alienate the Muslim population at large. There are two points that need separating: we shouldn't be scared to admit if extremism is more deeply embedded in some communities than we would like to think but we also shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the majority of Muslims remain fundamental to the solution to that and not part of the problem. There was a good piece on This Week last night calling for a Muslim-led enquiry into extremism within British communities - that could be a good start.

Yes he has a point but the problem needs to be tackled by getting the message into these communities in a relatable way at the ground level. An Eton millionaire on a soap box is going to achieve nothing - NOTHING - other than alienating people more and exacerbating the problem.

The only other thing it's good for is appeasing the choir. "Yaaarrr, here here! Clap clap!". Complete waste of time. But at least he's scored a few points with the people who already agree with him. That's what pollyticks is all about, right?
