...there are different family traditions for gift opening and when to do it...some people open on Christmas Eve, some on Christmas morning, some after lunch on Christmas Day etc...when do you open your gifts and do you have any specific family traditions when opening them...?....

When the kids lived at home they were always allowed to open one present from under the tree before they went to bed.
The rest was normally any time after 5 the next morning
Now we always have at least two Xmas days due to family circumstances.
This year it is three, so we will exchange gifts with son and daughterin law on Sunday before our first Xmas dinner.
She goes back to California early Monday morning.
Then it’s hubby, son and myself for the 25th so we will open any other presents and stocking.
Daughter and partner are here from the 27th onwards so we will celebrate Xmas day on the Sunday again, exchange gifts and stockings and the full on Xmas dinner again.

When we were young we used to get our gifts on Christmas Eve, when my boys were young Christmas morning, now we don’t bother too much with gifts, just a secret Santa opened at dinner time

i used to get up at 5am, shivering but was only allowed to open my stocking ( all the big presents were in the living room)

First thing Christmas morning! When we were kids we used to wake up at like 5:30. Now we're all adults, we like to stay in bed for longer.... but my mum didn't get the memo and still to this day wakes us all up at 5:30 to open our gifts

A tradition I carried on from my dad was when the kids woke I would make them wait at the top of the stairs, tell them I was going to check to see if santa had been.

So I would slowly tip toe into the living room, like my dad did then sigh as I slowly opened the door a little as I sensed the 2 heads leaning forward on the stairs behind me trying to get a glimpse. "No he's not been yet"

With a knowing smile I would shut the door, and true to previous form down they trotted for a look themselves..both tip toed into the room as I did as a child though....

Imagining thier faces compared to mine when my dad did it to me knowing how mine must have looked is far better than filming it on a phone.

Midnight of the 25th, so we have our main Christmas meal and stuff on Christmas eve, then hang out until midnight and then exchange gifts and have some chocolates
