Default Why is the word in the song if we're not allowed to say it?

Oh fgs. She was singing a song in all innocence. OK the most she's guilty of is being a bit naive.

Poor girl.

The issue of the N-Word being in rap, uh, "songs" is long debated.

I can see that the word "belongs" to a certain section in society, or at least I don't object all that strongly to the idea.

BUT if that's the case, it shouldn't be used in a piece of media marketed to a mass market?

I don't know, it's one of those things where especially in the United States it's not something with a simple answer.

I don't think it's a simple issue, some things exist in a vacuum but that ain't one of them.

I personally don't think that the word should be in the song personally.

Especially if you're trying to do mainstream Rap, like Jay-Z does.

She "mouthed" a bad word? OH NO! String her up!

While I wouldn't ever say this word to someone, I would sing it if it's in a song. I don't want to turn it into the victim olympics, but women have been horrifically oppressed over the centuries and in some countries, still are. Victims of FGM, married off to some old man at 8 or 9 years old. Even in this country, violence against women is widespread and often unpunished. Is there a word that people can't say about women? Bitch? Wh***? No... Everything's acceptable.

Meh. You would in your own home/with people you know, you wouldn't in public, and I reckon you know why. And everyone should have that basic understanding. I'm not saying people shouldn't sing these songs at home - with that understanding of why they wouldn't post it on Social Media or bust it out at a karaoke night.

Lip syncing isn't even saying the word though, I think it's a bit much in this case tbf, not to mention the fact she's Danish so English isn't even her first language

That part tbh I disagree with; there's no meaningful difference

I do find this part fair enough. It is fair to say that you can't expect people to be as aware of cultural nuances in a second language.

For the mostpart, though, I do think it's worth keeping in mind that there are an awful lot of people who know fine when what they're doing when they use the "but it's in a song " excuse.

Yeah, look I don't really listen to that type of music anyway and have no desire to use the word but sometimes I think people are outraged too easily with situations like this one, when it wasn't meant to cause offense
