care homes
its not acceptable and change is dyer, the Joe will do his bit, i am a tr-yer. my nan was neglected, and it will always be to late to get this corrected. left to lye and rot in a bed and always rested, if you treated a animal like this, the law is tested. thirsty and for water she was gasping, my nan was not able to speak, that ruled out asking. yes it was all smiles from the staff, but i new there was more beneath the fake laugh. low paid and with a mountain of work is no excuse, but correcting this just might cut out the abuse. this country needs to respect and love the older generation, because with out them, our future has no creation. (the joe has first hand exsperince that they are this bad and omg something needs to be done ? the chance of that is 0 and thats what makes me so mad.) shame on everyone as we all get older. |

I once worked for a private care home as an administrator and can tell you that the only requirement they had for their care assistants was that they had a pulse and were willing to work for very low wages. The work they undertook was extremely physical (lifting heavy bedridden patients, dealing with incontinent patients etc - all with very little training or experience). It's a recipe for breeding discontent and resentment in the staff, no doubt sometimes resulting in the neglect of their elderly charges. There is too little regulation of the private sector who tend to cut corners to maximise profits. After all care homes are not charitable institutions, they are money making businesses.

My aunt runs one that my mum works for, to be quite honest I know very little about the logistics of it but my mum's always complaining about unprofessional colleagues - there was one man who had been assigned to this old lady who lived alone. Anyway, he used to go to her with sob stories and complaints about his personal life, and she gave him loads of money. I assume this is against the law, because it's essentially taking from the vulnerable - obviously he was fired. In general my mum tends to complain more about the clients though - being of their generation you're bound to be treating some, uh, religious/old-fashioned people

I would think they vary greatly depending on the staff. If they hire people who are not natural carers then there could be problems because a lot of things they have to do are not pleasant.
