Default Train driver tells noisy passenger on her phone to be quiet

A train driver has been praised after he made an announcement asking a passenger to stop shouting into her phone.

The driver used the public address system on the packed commuter train travelling between London and Milton keynes to specifically address the female passenger.

He said: ‘This is a special message to the lady travelling in first class in the middle of the train.

‘Please refrain from shouting on the phone as you are annoying other passengers.’

The embarrassed commuter is reported to have promptly ended her phone call to the delight of fellow passengers.

Peter Foot, chairman of the National Campaign for Courtesy, said it was a ‘marvellous’ announcement and pointed out a passenger may have complained first.

Mr Foot added: ‘It’s big bugbear, people having loud mobile phone conversations on trains.

‘I have never heard of an announcement like this being made on a train before. I think it’s an excellent idea.’

A spokesman for train operator London Midland said such announcements were not part of any company policy.

Great stuff, can't stand really noisy people on their phones in trains, especially when they're doing it in the quiet carriage

..I would rather if there was someone else to do that sort of thing and he concentrated on driving the train though..I wouldn't want him to be distracted from what he was doing..I would rather have a noisy journey than one that ended with a bump...

thats right ignore everyone with a different opinion.....im so nasty for finding the behaviour of violent drug pushers and takers to be abhorrent...im so stupic for thinking the safety of the public at large and the innocent victims deserve better protection from violent drug takers.....some people lie to themselves their whole lives that drugs doesnt affect their behaviour....these narcissists dont even consider the misery their drug addictions bring to people around them (friends, family and innocent passers by) the lilly livered approach has failed, time for these crackheads to take personal not diminished responsibility for their abusive drug taking ways

What are you talking about? This thread is just about a woman talking too loudly on a cell phone.

Calm down. FFS.

yeah I went off topic, just ranting because the behaviour of the masses, on trains in particular is getting more and more disturbing and there is nearly always no authority figure to tell these people to behave. frankly a woman ona phone is trivial to some of the stuff that does go on, on trains. being stuck in a confined space going at 100mph with some coked up whackjobs is pretty scary.

Hero. Now if he could stop people eating really strong smelling food and stopping babies from coming on trains, that would be delightful

It's not nice to humiliate someone in public.

Why didn't the person who was bothered just go up to the person directly, why did they need to embarass the person in front of the whole train?

You say OFFENDER like she's a horrible person or something,. She just got carried away in a conversation. A simple tap on the shoulder probably could have solved the problem, but instead someone needed to make an announcement over the loudspeaker.

I think it speaks to our reliance on the authorities to solve every little freaking problem. Like people calling 911 when they lock their keys in their car.

It's the infantilization of our culture.

well for me, i try to deal with things directly. when my neighbors bother me, i don't go to the land lord first, I try to talk to them directly first.
That's just me though. That's how i like to be dealt with, I'd much rather my neighbors talk to me directly and complain, rather than going to the land lord or manager first.

Why are people so scared to talk to each other? They think they have to go to authority figures first to deal with any issue.

If people just acted like civilized human beings to each other, instead of trying to use Authority to get their way, this would be a much better world.

This actually does really annoy me, I never understand why people have to shout almost into the mobile phones when making or taking a call.

The most annoying part for me though, is that you get to hear one part of the call from the person you can hear but I often find myself thinking what on earth is the person saying at the other end.

I think people are reluctant to tackle strangers head on in situations like this one in case they might be a bit of a loose canon. People can be quite volatile when being politely asked to refrain from their actions.

2 reasons 1) They have no authority nor even moral advisors in their lives 2) thr train companies must take more responsibility here for the safety and enjoyment of travelling by train.....they must stop burying their heads in the sand. why not ring the police to tackle idiots at the next train station? there should be zero tolerance for idiotic behaviour on trains

I think this thread is a perfect example of how people can take their aggression out on people that have nothing to do with it. If you get THAT ANGRY about some woman being too loud on a cell phone... jesus... you need to chill out. Figue out what's really important in your life. get used to people being different than you.

Clearly you are angry about something else in your life if you can get that angry just because a stranger is being slightly annoying.

Get a grip people. Seriously.
