When someone says it's a "privilege" to be white, I know longer take it as an offense. I know it's a myth but I'll try to take it as a complement. If the person who says "white privilege" by implication wants to denigrate their own race (or gender) and say that being their race sucks in comparison to whites, then that will only hurt them.

It's a privilege to be white!!! It's beautiful and amazing to be white!!! No shame.

Nobody's saying anything about white washing history.Just don't tell people they're underprivileged because of the colour of their skin.Tell them that they're not good enough for long enough and it can become a self fulfilling prophecy.Terms like white privilege are counter productive and problematic.

It's cultural - something most were aware of, except for those trying desperately to blame whites for everything and conviently ignoring/ diverting attention away from the fact that the cultural patterns of behaviour of other groups are less likely to improve their economic living standards.

People have to stop feeling like a victim. If some white people screw over black people it's because they're dickheads and dinosaurs, not because they're white. Probably one of the races MOST done down by whitie in the last couple of hundred years is the Native American. And yet... you hardly hear from them. Are they not now discriminated against? Yes they bloody are... and yet who's weeping over their misfortune? No one.

It's a small world, we're all a long time dead and no one in the world is any better than anyone else.

I do personally think it's a red herring, in many ways. A very tiny proportion of people actually have the sort of privilege that is being talked about... most of those people do happen to be white (and also, male) for various historical reasons. However, the VAST majority of white people, and the vast majority of men, are just as oppressed as everyone else. It benefits the privileged to have everyone at each others throats on gender and ethnic battlegrounds because it stops us from turning our gaze where it belongs. Upwards. At the true wealth. The true power.

Within the last decade, we were so close to "getting the point". After the recession... pointing the finger at the banks, the finance markets, the 1%, things like Occupy. Something was really taking off. But these people are clever and have been doing this since the dawn of civilization; they successfully distracted us, once again, and we're all squabbling about Feminism and Terrorism and "PC culture" and whatever other bull**** they've decided to throw to turn our heads.
