yeah i think it's important to move away from the typical base plot that a lot of princess-based fairy tales seem to have

They shouldn’t be rewritten no, that’s a ridiculous ask, just move with the times and create more up to date films for people to enjoy, we’re on a good track right now, with strong female characters in kids films, we can’t change the past, but we can always have a good future.

Nope. Write new stories if you don't like the old ones.

I can understand when people say "the princess should rescue herself", but I doubt even Luke Skywalker could break out of a locked room in top of a tower guarded by a dragon without help. If you want to be all modern, then write a story where the princess could feasibly save herself.

Even then, the old stories still have their merit. Snow White eating the poisoned apple shows Stranger Danger, even if the stranger appears to just be an innocent old bag.

but why shouldn't they have a rewritten version? older stories being transformed with newer, modernized plots is always being done in media so why not with these? again, it's not as if the older stories are going to be completely wiped from existence

Yeah but I don't think that's what they mean, the Cinderella original story was alot darker as the ugly sisters chopped bits of their feet off to fit in the glass slipper . And they got their eyes pecked out by birds .

So obviously that would of been too gory for a children's story so it was altered .

But when it comes to other stuff I don't think there's any need to make them based on the "modern woman" as they're called Fairy tales for a reason . They're fiction and it's all make belief .

I remember having a book on the little mermaid and it was really grim, her trade on getting legs was she was in constant pain

Alot of the original Fairy tales have a darker grim side I think .
I much prefer the family friendly versions .

But aside from that ,I don't think fairytsles need updating as they're classics .

I did a whole project in uni about Nursery Rhyme/Fairytale origins and was so shocked at most of them.

Like, Rapunzel was basically a sex slave in that tower.

OMG that's insane . But like you said nursery ryhmes also had grim meanings as well , e.g ring a ring a roses is about the plague . You just wouldn't ever associate those things with children's stories and songs . It's interesting but bizarre at the same time .

Maybe we should write all new ones where the LGBT+QIGenderFluid prince is locked up in a tower and the Feminist Bi-curious Pansexual Two Spirit princes comes and rescues ‘them’.

Then we should have a book(and DVD) burning ceremony for the old ones and wipe any trace of them from the internet so we can all become ‘woke’?
