Good news for women in Ni and for same sex couples, its a bit odd that Sinn Fein were welcoming a directive from Westminster though, and even odder that the assembly actually sat to try and block this when they won't sit for anything else

lets hope there is a grace period for people just over the 22 weeks limit that this law didnt come into place fast enough for. its only fair.

I think Sinn Fein were always behind wanting gay marriage and abortion but the DUP were staunchly against it so I guess they're just happy it's been brought in by whatever means?

Just a thought, how come the DUP want to stay close to the UK, have the same rights etc in Brexit, but don’t want the same human rights as us.

good point Smudge, it seems they are happy to take direction from Westminster only when it suits, I find it pretty hypocritical from both sides, given they haven't actually sat down and power shared for years

True but these are too very important changes for women and gay people so We're all hypocrites in some way

It probably will come back to bite them on the bum but hey ho, not a fan of the 7 month limit myself, I think that is very late for an abortion unless there is a medical reason

Yeah agree with that. I would have thought that abortions that late would only be done for medical emergencies though?

Fantastic news for equality and progression. Long overdue. A lot of people seem to be strongly against this so I do worry about the animosity it might cause. But what matters most is that it's going to enrich the lives of same-sex couples and take a huge amount of pressure away from women in the future.

I would have thought so, though I am sure I heard on the news last night 28 weeks was the cut off, might be wrong though

My niece had a baby boy at 26 weeks, he only survived 6 hours, she then went on to have a baby girl at 26 weeks, mother and baby ended up on life support for a while, but story ended happily with both surviving, baby girl is now a very bright and happy dance champion.
Other than medical emergencies I would like the cut off below 24 weeks.

Yes I agree, if the baby can survive outside the womb then I think the cut off should be there (unless medical emergency obviously)

Seriously though, it's none of mens business unless you're in a serious relationship together, and even then it's still ultimately the choice of the woman. If men were the ones to get pregnant, then abortion would never be questioned; there'd be adverts on tv promoting the local abortion centres.
