Default Kid’s mental health ‘extremely damaged’ because he didn’t get ICE CREAM

A child’s mother has bizarrely concluded that kids who don’t get ICE CREAM in lesson suffer from ‘extremely damaged’ mental health.

Pictured; Bede Burn Primary School kids, who are now apparently ‘divided’

Liv Mouter, 24, whose child goes to Bede Burn Primary School, County Durham, claimed her child left the lesson ‘upset’, because he was not rewarded for 100% attendance, whilst other kids, with 100% attendance, were rewarded with fresh ice cream.

She added the situation had ‘extremely damaged’ the 8 year old’s ‘mental health’, and was ‘cruel’.

She has even started her own PETITION, to demonstrate there are ‘more inclusive ways to reward pupils’, and has contacted the council who bluntly told her this was a ‘school matter’, NOT a council one.

In an exclusive Sun interview, another mum, Gabrielle Houston, 28, claimed her concerns were ‘brushed off’. She explained that kids ‘can’t help being unwell’. The school leapt to defend themselves, with ‘Mrs Smith’ reminding the parents that the attendance did NOT take into account Covid-related absences, and rewards ‘prepare kids for the work life in modern day Britain’

Gabrielle later expressed there was now a ‘divide’ between pupils.

Do kids deserve a reward for 100% attendance?

Kids getting rewarded for 100% attendance during Covid times is pretty mean. I mean rewarding kids for not getting sick or for Isolating if they're a close contact? Bizarre thing to do really

Ok I see they didn't take Covid related absences into account but what if they were just sick?

Then they don’t get the ice cream. This mum has entirely overreacted to the situation and could simply have taken her child for a 99 herself. Instead she’s presenting petitions to the council because she’s an undercover communist who thinks everyone deserves the same thing.

Sure, i wouldn't go that far but I think it's a bit stupid to reward kids for something that's totally out of their control. Would they be happier if kids with stomach bugs came in, puked everywhere and passed it on to everyone instead? Are they promoting going to work even if you're sick in later life?

I agree with Niamh sickness is outside a kids control so rewarding them for not being sick is madness ...what if there was a kid in the class with a medical condition who needed to attend hospital a few times a year...that said the mother is nuts she should be teaching her child resilience in these situations.

Yes, it’s a skill every British person needs. Perseverance, they call it.

Never heard so much garbage as you are spouting in this thread. Its not perseverance to attend when you're ill, its downright stupidity.

My kids school do this too. They get a certificate and a pencil if they have been in every day.

Not only should people not be rewarded for attendance at school (or work) if they have anythu g that can be passed on to others - they're a ****ing arsehole if they DO turn up. Imagine telling people it's a good idea to attend work with a stomach bug .

So you tell me each time you have a cold, you have about 1-2 weeks off work to protect your colleagues, do you. Or are you calling yourself a ‘*****ing arsehole’

Tbh they'd be getting a fist from me (and not the sexual kind) if they turned up to a work environment that I was apart of with a Stomach Bug.

It's inconsiderate.

Maybe the statistics show that it works.
Hubby used to get a yearly bonus, he was absent from work for 14 a weeks stint one year, they obviously knew it was genuine, but it cost him a few grand.
His brother was off for less than a fortnight and he too lost his bonus.
But it really worked, the absenteeism dropped by a staggering amount.

If you're wanting these kids to put up with Maths for a whole year then the kid deserves Ice Cream plus more.

A woke mum has claimed this rewards system ‘will lead to eating disorders’

The mum who claimed the rewards system ‘damaged’ mental health of 8 year olds has a Master’s degree in psychology…. surely she knows what she’s on about

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.c...n-22863063.amp

She also claimed families in the North East ‘cannot afford treats such as ice cream’, and even quoted Marcus Rashford’s ICONIC school meal campaign as a comparison to this rewards system

Liv also backed up the ‘cruel’ rewards system with more evidence: kids who handed all in their homework last term got a ‘personalised pencil case’. She excused children’s inability to hand in homework by the fact ‘the parents have to submit it themselves via an app’. essentially blaming parents’ laziness for their child not receiving a pencil case - but her child didn’t receive one HIMSELF..

her ridiculous petition now has 640 signatures
https://www.change.org/p/bede-burn-p...5985-en-gb%3A0

I am incredibly shocked by her poor spelling and grammar, considering she gained a Master’s degree… ‘privaledged’

Woke mums in the comments of the campaign put forward their views, with Shelagh and Julie claiming awarding 100% attendance is ‘discriminatory’, whilst Angela added rewarding kids with ice cream may lead to ‘EATING DISORDERS’

There are competitions in schools from writing to sports and attendance and also detentions for being late

Some will get rewards and some will get punished no different to life as an adult

A bit of a sniffle is one thing but something closer to a flu, or a stomach bug, then yes people should be staying off 1) for their own health, 2) for the sake of their workmates, and 3) for the sake of the company they work for (because getting everyone sick is going to tank productivity).

Not in the UK, unless they are self employed, in which case they're probably going to be working alone anyway. Unless they have employees - and if they own a business big enough to support employees, but can't afford to take a day off, then they might want to rethink self-employment.

And that's how it should be. People should be able to take time off for illness without loss of income. If they can't it's nothing to be celebrated - it's a complete failure of the system.

The system is failing teachers are be forced to work sick because there is a massive shortage, my sister who has a little boy was isolating because he had covid work said she would be paid unless she took it has holiday

What systems do actually know that work and see people get what they deserve
The answer is none it’s a fantasy

To answer "would I take time off for a sniffle" - I can take a day off because I didn't get enough sleep. I can finish half way through the day because I'm feeling a bit low, or because it's the only nice day forecast in a week and I want to go for a walk in the hills "for my mental health". I obviously can't take the piss with it and do it every day but yes if I had a cold and wanted to spend the day in bed, I could, and I'd be paid. That's what working for an ethical company looks like. I know all too well that most companies are not run like that, but again, that's a systemic failing and nothing else. The fact that workers, human beings, are treated like drones and worked while they're ill isn't something that anyone should be happy about... and these "school attendance schemes" are basically just training kids up for that life.
