![]() The iconic Hollywood sign faces demolition unless activists can raise £2 million in three weeks. The famous sign, which was first erected in 1923, is in danger of being scrapped after investors decided to sell the land to developers. However, they did agree to sell to a conservation group if they could raise £8.4 million by 14 April, and this deadline is fast approaching. Hollywood stars Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have lent financial support to the campaign, but it is still £2 million short of the target. The Trust for Public Land’s Tim Ahern, said, “We feel good about where we are and we feel good about our chances to do this." LA council member, Tom LaBonge, added, “We're getting closer to our goal and if we continue working hard, I know we'll reach it.” The sign originally read Hollywoodland, with the ‘Land’ portion removed in 1949. I cannot see them getting rid of it. It's a famous landmark. There would be uproar.
