I find it hard to comprehend how he hasn't talked to his wife about it and said she would be "shocked to know he's even talking it", and yet he's speaking quite freely to the Daily Mail. I'm sorry if he's sick, and I wouldn't wish death on him, but Michael Winner has always been a shameless self-publicist.

Sad for him but I agree with him having the right to make this choice if that is what he wants, reading the article I see that it's taken very seriously and not just on a whim, and therefore why not allow the choice to die with dignity and at peace?

I know it's a very controversial topic, and hard on the loved ones, but then again death at any time is devastating for those loved ones and this way they get to say a dignified goodbye as well.

The thing that struck me though is that Winner specifies he hasn't discussed it with his own loved ones, which I find somewhat selfish.

Good grief, another thread too concerned with bitching about other members instead of talking about the subject, rather than just ignoring the protaganists.... this place is getting worse by the day.

As far as MW is concerned, very sad about his illness: and I agree with his right to use Dignitas if he so wishes when the time comes - we don't allow our pets to suffer long painful suffering deaths when something is terminal, and I don't see why humans should have to either.

He's fortunate though that he is in the position to have the money that it costs, not every one in the same long suffering position has.

It is sad.

I do hope he broached the subject with his wife before the interview went to print.

I do think people who are able to make an informed decision should be allowed to end their suffering. Have watched documentaries on dignitas it is a fairly stringent process to go through and you have to be well enough to travel and actual drink the drug. The families lose some precious time with their loved one but the suffering ends.
