Default Tina Malone is pregnant at 50

Quote:
SHAMELESS star Tina Malone has revealed she is pregnant.

The 50-year-old actress announced today that she is five weeks pregnant with her and husband Paul Chase's first child together following successful IVF treatment.

Speaking on ITV1's This Morning, Tina — who is best known for playing foul-mouthed Mimi Maguire in Channel 4's Shameless — exclaimed: "I am pregnant. We are delighted."

Mum-of-one Tina, who had her daughter Danielle Malone when she was just 17, added: "I think it's important that I'm much more healthy than I was 20 years ago.

"I've had ECGs, I've had blood tests, we've had everything done. And physically, mentally, emotionally, and even financially, believe it or not, I'm better than I have been for 20 years.

"And I've got the best man or partner I could ever have.

Isn't the baby at high risk of being disabled with such an old woman?

YEs. She's gonna need extra special attention by the hospital staff due to her age.

Ivf cut off in most places privately is 50 I think so she has just made it... It depends whether she has used an egg donor too. But as the embryos are grown "in vitro" only absolutely healthy and viable ones are transferred back...it's the toll on her health afterwards that may be telling but medically she can carry the baby quite healthily at 50...

Oh so there isn't the same risk through IVF then of having a baby with disabilities?

Oh right, well that's good if she's just made it and there's no risk to the baby.

But if she does end up with effects on her own health I'd have no sympathy. There's a reason the body has a biological clock.

Yeah...in some respects the risks are higher but if she has used donor eggs, they will have come from a woman who is 36 or below so the risks reduce in that respect that say a woman in her 40s who gets pregnant naturally.

What would be the point in going through a pregnancy at that age though but not even using your own eggs? You may as well just adopt if the baby isn't even going to be biologically yours anyway

Go ahead, I've already knocked you off my list just for that implication anyway

Yeah, even if the eggs aren't hers, the baby is still at risk through being carried by her isn't it? I would've thought so anyway.

It wasn't a complete post. I meant to put Annie at the start of the sentence.

Did you not get the memo? The only thing old and ancient is that long dead joke you love to flog.

It would still be biologically hers. Basically in your late 30s your egg start to deteriorate leading to more chromosomal defects like Downs etc but if you use a donor egg there is less chance of that but the baby still develops the placenta in the sme way so has your blood supply etc... the problems start sometimes because your body knows during natural conception if an egg is going to be a viable pregnancy and so doesn't allow implantation if there is any problems. But because they are grown in a petri dish and then implanted some will implant with birth defects that usually wouldn't but they are usually found quite quickly as you have lots of scans during the process....

I'm not a Tina Malone fan by any means, but if it's a donor egg (don't know much about this but Annie's posts have been informative...) and there's a good chance of a healthy, wanted baby, I don't see it's any one else's business. No one seems to be up in arms when a sixty year old man fathers a child.

Good for her, she obviously really wanted a baby if she was going through IVF.

What? what about people who use surrogates then? Like Gary and Izzy in Corrie?? Is the baby biologically Tinas or Izzys? I assumed it was Izzys since it was her egg used

Actually people who think it's selfish for a woman, usually think the same about men, the only difference imo is that it's more risky for the baby when it's an older woman

What I mean is that there is usually less of an outcry.
