Don't really care about any of this but it looks like she has lost loads of weight

Isn't the baby at high risk of being disabled with such an old woman?

I'm not sure whether this woman is a real life troll or not

YEs. She's gonna need extra special attention by the hospital staff due to her age.

Ivf cut off in most places privately is 50 I think so she has just made it... It depends whether she has used an egg donor too. But as the embryos are grown "in vitro" only absolutely healthy and viable ones are transferred back...it's the toll on her health afterwards that may be telling but medically she can carry the baby quite healthily at 50...

Oh right, well that's good if she's just made it and there's no risk to the baby.
But if she does end up with effects on her own health I'd have no sympathy. There's a reason the body has a biological clock. Last edited by Marsh.; 16-05-2013 at 12:35 PM. |

Yeah...in some respects the risks are higher but if she has used donor eggs, they will have come from a woman who is 36 or below so the risks reduce in that respect that say a woman in her 40s who gets pregnant naturally.

Wants to make a joke about Niamh in this thread but it's just too darn close to ML.

What would be the point in going through a pregnancy at that age though but not even using your own eggs? You may as well just adopt if the baby isn't even going to be biologically yours anyway

Yeah, even if the eggs aren't hers, the baby is still at risk through being carried by her isn't it? I would've thought so anyway.

It would still be biologically hers. Basically in your late 30s your egg start to deteriorate leading to more chromosomal defects like Downs etc but if you use a donor egg there is less chance of that but the baby still develops the placenta in the sme way so has your blood supply etc... the problems start sometimes because your body knows during natural conception if an egg is going to be a viable pregnancy and so doesn't allow implantation if there is any problems. But because they are grown in a petri dish and then implanted some will implant with birth defects that usually wouldn't but they are usually found quite quickly as you have lots of scans during the process....

I'm not a Tina Malone fan by any means, but if it's a donor egg (don't know much about this but Annie's posts have been informative...) and there's a good chance of a healthy, wanted baby, I don't see it's any one else's business. No one seems to be up in arms when a sixty year old man fathers a child.

Good for her, she obviously really wanted a baby if she was going through IVF.
