A man is recovering in hospital after his hand was cut off in an attack in a street in Essex, according to Sky sources.

Detectives are questioning a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after the man in his 20s was attacked in Loughton on Friday night.

The victim had been on a night out in the town with friends when he was attacked by a group of three or four men in what police believe may have been a targeted assault.

Police who arrived on the scene arrested one of the suspects nearby following a foot chase by a Special Constable.

A large knife was recovered nearby and enquiries are continuing to look for further suspects who are believed to have driven from the scene in an Audi A8 which was later found on fire in Horseshoe Close, Waltham Abbey.

The scene has been cordoned off whilst investigations continue.
