His remarks come six months after admitting his partial 'responsibility' for the rise of Isis

Tony Blair has said that "many millions" of Muslims hold a viewpoint that is "fundamentally incompatible with the modern world."

Rejecting arguments that Isis is simply "tens of thousands of brainwashed crazies," he continued: "[Isis] does not seek dialogue but dominance. It cannot therefore be contained. It has to be defeated."

Even if he makes a reasoned and good point now does he really expect anyone to take that much notice of him any more.

I really would love to see into his whole mind to see if he regrets ever aligning himself so close to the Bush Presidency and Iraq.

From such an amazing rise to power he allowed himself to be duped into sacrificing all the support he had got in 2 elections,near massive support too.
To not do all he could and should have with that support but to then go down the road of trying to get personal war leader glorification, by taking the UK into unnecessary conflict and territory best left alone.

Lets not forget Blair's religious leanings either, he maintains that he is a devout christian. So he is basically perpetuating the myth that 1 religion is better than another, when history shows that all sorts of crimes against humanity have been done in the name of religion

Muslims are no different to followers of any other religion and it's stupid and dangerous to think otherwise. Comments like this will only demonise them further.

There are many Muslims that take a relaxed or unorthodox approach to Islam, just like there is with every religion going. Not every religious follower is a fundamentalist that follows their scriptures to the T.

Blair has made the Middle East his life since stepping down so is worth listening to, I think he understands the region much more now than he did during Iraq and his view has become more nuanced

It is not the ancient text in an ancient book which is the problem that Blair is addressing - it is the medieval mentality of barbaric primitives who STILL believe in the literal meaning of that ancient text centuries after it was written.

ANY religious person who still interprets EVERY word in their 'Holy Book' literally, is an idiotic extremist who needs locking away - and that includes extremist Jews, Christians, Muslims or any other 'Faith'.

The trouble is; that the number of such extremists in Islam FAR outnumbers all the other religions put together.

All religion is the same, Kirk. Either accept it or live in denial, makes no difference to me. You can't accuse one religion of something that all religions are guilty of. You can't make out that Islam is any worse than any other religion for fundamentalism and paint millions of people with the same brush just because you've bought into the sensationalist demonising that Muslims have faced since 2001.

The problem with the Middle East is nothing to do with Islam, it's the fact that these terrorist groups and Militias use religion as a method of control.

Most Muslims in the west are Moderates just like most other religious people. There's a lot of Moderates in Middle Eastern countries that aren't controlled by warlords and terrorists too. To say that fundamentalism is an issue when it's being forced on a country is silly. Remove the Terrorists and the Dictators that benefit from enforcing extreme orthodox Islamic practices and the Middle East wouldn't be much different to the West.
