Default Should you have to act your age as you grow older?

Hi forum

It's Easter Sunday. Happy Easter to you all.

Here is a question for you. Should one have to act their age as one grows older.? Earlier , i was wearing a t shirt and shorts, sat on the bus and had earphones in. I have a smart phone, a top of the range Samsung galaxy. I like to keep up with modern gadgets and I think having a teenage daughter helps. However as I paused a song playing. I heard an elderly couple opposite me . The woman whispered to her husband "look how scruffy he looks, dressed like a teenager and listening to music in his ears like our grandchildren . At least we act our age."

First thing first I am only 59 they were in their late 70s. Secondly I wasn't that scruffy. I was wearing older clothes as I was doing an odd diy job for a family relative. Secondly , I love pop music and keeping up with the charts.

Should I just listen to cliff Richard and Catherine Jenkins , and do a crossword and be done with it ? I am young at heart! What do you think forum ? Is Ron too old to be cool ? Ha ha .

Ron.

The X2 bus is horrible I tell you. Full of pensioners narrating the whole journey and having an opinion on anything from brexit to Britain's got talent. No wonder I put my earphones in!!! R.

No, just live life how you wish.
Acting ones age is a nonsense, I hate this they should act their age attitude.

Life's too short and for many real short too to worry about others expected or pre conceived ideas of 'so called normal behaviour.

As long as no one is harming anyone else,no norms needed.

Depends what you mean.

Should a grown adult be behaving like an immature irresponsible child? I'd say no.

But when it gets a bit complicated where people criticise a 50 year old for "acting like a twenty year old" or whatever then I say live and let live.

But there are obvious exceptions where maturity and common sense come into practice.

I don't see why listening to music with earphones on has anything to do with age, for all they knew you could have been listening to Cliff Richard or Max Bygraves. They sound like judgemental, bitter old biddies if you ask me. You carry on wearing what the heck you like Ron, what you wear is nothing to do with anyone else. Its great to be young at heart, keep being you, sod the misery guts. I'm 56 and I listen to Eminem, in fact I'm going to see him in Leeds in September, my younger friends think its hilarious and love how I am young at heart.

*rapping*
It's cool to be, young at heart
It's better than being glum
Wear yer shorts or whatever you like
Just don't show yer builders bum

Listen to yer music
headphones in yer ears
Nothing wrong with being
younger than yer years!

Ha! Keep being you Ron

You are as old as you feel Ronald. My favourite outfit is jeans and boots and T shirts and I'm 67. The secret is not to give a flying f... what anybody else thinks. Dress and act as you please. Happy Easter to you too.

In context with the original post. I don't see how wearing headphones/earphones is an "age" thing.

It would be like saying younger generations can't buy vinyl records.

I've never done what people my age do (take drugs, drink alcohol, party) I've always been a bit mature. It's just potato potatoe really.
