He did it because Mike wouldn't give him the list (which he then realised he could get elsewhere...). He knew he had ****ed up immediately. I don't think he had planned on killing him with the shot, seeing how panicked he was.

Putting that under him going a bit crazy in the stress of the situation and panicking.
