Inmates.

Last night, five of you were presented with the opportunity to take part in a twist called Pack Mentality. These five were picked at random from a name generator containing all 15 of your names.

I then PMed you five - who shall remain anonymous until the game ends - with a chance to get rid of some of the competition. Tonight, one of the deaths will be in the killer's hands, but the other is in your five's. I can now reveal that 4 of you accepted the offer (and the other one didn't reply, ty for that - you know who you are ) and 3 of you voted for the same player. Therefore, as a majority vote was achieved in Pack Mentality, the second player dying tonight is down to 3 players' decision rather than one's. Of course, one of those 3 may be the real Killer, so this could just be a happy coincidence for him or her.

I again ask that ALL five of the players approached for the twist remain anonymous, and do not reveal they were approached - including the one of you who abstained. This decision, if made public, would not only spoil the suspense of the game but also jeopardise your chances of winning. Remember that past players get to vote for their favourite finalist - how do you think they'll feel knowing you killed them off for no reason? And, as a judge, I'd consider it a silly move (and as a host, a crappy one trying to ruin the game )

So yeah, keep schtum.

Livia's decision to keep the murder of Michaela Snow quiet had, rather surprisingly, not left the manager feeling anything close to guilt. She believed the best way to deal with it - a small bump in her system - was to conduct her own internal enquiry and therefore kept guards working at the prison on a need-to-know basis. If the outside world knew anything about her letting the prisoners roam free after a murder had been committed, she'd surely be lynched, but she couldn't risk the murderer - who, at this stage, she had totally no clues as to the identity of - getting panicky and lashing out at someone else. Maybe her.

Livia had the inmates sorting out her music collection when she noticed that Sofia wasn't helping at all. She glanced over her copy of 50 Shades of Grey and gave her a steely gaze, but Sofia just returned it. Hugh looked up from his alphabetized stack of Roxy Music vinyls and saw Sofia about to get in trouble.
"Uh, ma'am, I think she needs her medication." He put his arm around Sofia and she softened a little.
"Fine, take her to the infirmary," Livia waved dismissively, before turning her attention to the others. "You, Wilson! Put on that Joni Mitchell record."

Out of earshot, Sofia grabbed Hugh.
"Why did you do this?"
"I didn't want to see you in trouble-" he started
"Why? Because I am weak old lady?" Sofia prodded his chest, "You think I need protection? I in here for murder, little boy, so do not patronise me". She stormed off into the library.
Hugh knew of Bronowska - everyone did, her murder of 4 retirees and her own husband and sister made international news for its shockingly brutal nature - but he couldn't help but see her as vulnerable. Maybe it was Michaela's death, but it seemed to shake everyone else up. Some, like himself, were on edge and prone to mistrust, but Sofia seemed fearless. This worried Hugh. After furtively staring at a notice about health and safety, he pursued her.

What just happened

"They've been gone for twenty minutes; you lot," Livia gestured to the other 13 inmates in her living quarters, "go and see what's happening".
Thinking this to be a rather hefty lapse in judgment on her part, and a huge opportunity on theirs, 5 of them set about finding Hugh and Sofia.

"Oi, Blondie", Julianne yelled to the tall Swede lurking behind them. "You expect us girls to go and wander around this big, dark, lonely place by ourselves? I think you should go on. Be a man."
"Yeah," murmured Stefanie, "besides, I need a drink."
"An excellent idea," Julianne smiled sarcastically, as she put her arm around Stefanie and took her back down the corridor.
The last thing Jonas heard was their laughter.

At the back of the library, Sofia was perusing an aisle on crime novels when she saw someone enter the back entrance.
"What do you want?"
She didn't get an answer, so much as a shove into the stone column separating the aisles.
The killer didn't have much time, and quickly dangled a length of rope around a wooden beam in the ceiling as Sofia laid unconscious on the floor. They grabbed a chair from one of the sitting areas in the library and wrapped the coiled rope as a makeshift noose around Sofia's neck. Just as the killer kicked the chair out from under Sofia's feet, Sofia awoke and choked, trying to force the rope out from under her neck. She kicked wildly and then her eyes chanced upon something in the distance - it was that blond gentleman who had a nice ass. She tried screaming but just made a gargling, coughing noise. Jonas heard it loud and clear and rushed forward to help, but the killer wasn't in the mood for another Ieva situation, so they seized him from behind just as he tried to support Sofia's flailing legs.

Jonas kicked frantically and grabbed out at books to try and hit the attacker with, but to his surprise they were incredibly strong. He was dragged into the library toilet and thrown forward, his face smashing into the tile flooring and chipping a tooth.
"Please, I'll say nothing!" he pleaded, as the killer grabbed his hair and shoved him forward again, into the toilet basin. "Please!"
Jonas' face was thrust down into the toilet bowl; a foul but mercifully unsoiled pool of water flooded up his nose and mouth as he tried to jab his elbows and kick the attacker. The killer focussed their energy on holding his head down and eventually he stopped struggling. The killer paused and listened for any movement outside. There was none.

The discovery of their bodies by a guard later on made Livia feel queasy. It was understood, however, that Sofia committed suicide after ruthlessly murdering Jonas - and indeed Michaela - flecks of Jonas' skin tissue and blood were found on her clothes (the real killer was canny enough to make sure of that) and there were no signs of injury or foul play upon Sofia's body. For now, Livia assumed the case was over and she could get back to managing 13 inmates. She didn't have a clue, but they did....

now, since none of you know their names yet... here's what just happened:

- The killer decided to kill Glenn (Sofia). I'm sorry, Glenn, but thank you for playing
- Last night and today, 3 of the 5 players approached to take part in the twist decided that they wanted to kill off Cuda (Jonas). Cuda, I'm so sorry, but thank you so much for applying
- In the story, I had to write it so that it looked like the killer killed Cuda (because otherwise it'd be too complicated writing about two gender-neutral killers LOL). The killer framed Glenn for the murders of Cuda and Kate. The killer is still at large, but the prisoners don't know this.
