Councillors are next week expected to agree that Jimmy Savile be stripped of the Leeds Award he was given by the city council in 2008.

A meeting of the full council will also scrap plans for a statue or some other form of memorial to the late television star following allegations that he sexually abused young girls.

Savile was never made an Honorary Freeman of Leeds, the highest honour the council can bestow, but on July 2, 2008, councillors granted him the Leeds Award, given to people who have made an outstanding contribution to the city.

Savile was recognised for his charity work. His name has already been removed from a list of Leeds Award recipients on a wall in the Civic Hall.

What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

He has not been found guilty in any trial and therefore must be considered an innocent man. I thought that was how our judicial system worked?

Yes I agree with you, however in this case the sheer weight of legally unproven allegations has changed the due process of law and as such Jimmy Savile is a sexual deviant, molester, abuser, rapist and Paedophile

Whilst there almost certainly is enough circumstantial evidence coupled with the witness testimonies to say realistically JS was some of the above, we will never know for sure the extent and depth of his crimes as they will always be unproven in a court of law.

However this story may lead onto more startling revelations connected with high level child Paedophile rings involving senior govt members and god knows who else...!!!

In the eyes of the law you are correct Sticks. It is 'innocent until proven guilty', but unfortunately when it comes to paedophelia and a media two-ring-circus where 'profit' comes before the consideration of anyone who actually may be innocent, it becomes 'guilty until proven innocent'. The public (most of which are a gullable thick bunch of people) will simply believe what is spewed out by the papers and on tv which then turns them into judge, jury and executioner of the person or persons they name, and without a trial or much evidence to back it up.

The evidence that the police are desperate to find which can link anyone else to what Jimmy Saville may have done will be simply people coming forward and saying 'this', 'that' and 'the other' about what aparently happened to them in the past. The second that happens the police will rush like mad to that person or persons house, probably mob-handed and it wont be long before the media find out, as theres more than likely someone in the force taking a back-hander as the newspaper that gets that juicy story the quickest will without doubt profit very much from it, so paying to get the information faster than anyone else will be in their best interest. It's a corrupt world you know The News of the World phone-hacking scandal for instance.

I was reading about Freddie Star's furious outburst towards these (couldn't give a ****) journalists who are more than happy to shove a camera and a microphone in his face and talk about allegations that he maybe a peadophile. Well his life is now ruined anyway (guilty or innocent) and I agree with his anger. I think anyone would with the way the whole corrupt system works.

Jimmy Savile's former flatmate and chauffeur was released on bail today after he was arrested over historic abuse allegations.

Ray Teret was one of two men held on suspicion of rape yesterday by detectives from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) investigating three separate claims of sexual abuse.

The two men, aged 61 and 71, were arrested in Altrincham, Trafford.

Police emphasised that the accusations were not linked to the national inquiry into abuse by disgraced TV presenter Savile, with whom Teret worked and once shared a flat.

A GMP spokesman said: "A 71-year-old man and a 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape yesterday have been bailed until November 29 pending further inquiries."

Scotland Yard has been passed up to 45 archive recordings of a Jimmy Savile BBC radio show in which the late presenter can allegedly be heard behaving inappropriately with young girls.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Operation Yewtree investigation into sexual abuse by Savile and others were last week sent nine archive reels, containing up to five audio clips each, from the 1970s BBC Radio 1 show Savile's Travels.

The clips were discovered by an archivist in Finland and could contain material that was never broadcast by the BBC.

The BBC has been unable to verify the authenticity of the recordings, three of which have been published online. At least one of the recordings was aired by Channel 4 News last month.

In one clip available online, a girl can be heard telling Savile to "get off me" and "get off my backside" after the late presenter tells her to describe him as "the only one" in her life.

Darren Ingram, the archivist who uncovered the recordings, said there were "absolutely no smoking guns" in the clips, and added: "But there is certainly a background of inappropriate, misguided behaviour in front of a live microphone.

"I am sure Savile knew the old broadcasting maxim about treating every microphone as a live one, so there should be no scope for anyone to suggest that these were illicit recordings."

A man has been arrested in connection with the investigation into abuse claims made against Jimmy Savile.

Offers working on Operation Yewtree arrested a man in his 70s from Cambridgeshire at 07:15 GMT.

A police spokesman said the man had been arrested on suspicion of sexual offences, and had been taken into police custody locally.

Mr De’ath, a producer of Savile’s on the BBC radio shoe Teen Scene, has lived for the last ten years in a one bedroom second floor flat in a housing association block in Cambridge.

In his autobiography 'Uncommon Criminal' published in 2008, Mr De'ath described himsef as a 'sexual predator' who had 'targeted' the actresses Susanna York, Julie Christie, and Charlotte Rampling. He admitted to being a voyeur and claimed to have 'lifelong twin obsessions with sex and religion.'

He claimed he was recruited by MI5 to befriend a Russian spy at an orgy and maintained that he discovered Kenny Everett.

If you knew anything about the law you'd be a little more measured in what you post and more careful about the the unfounded allegations you throw around.

So much of the gossip you post is made up of unfounded allegations it's impossible to list them all without giving up some of my precious time to do it. And frankly, who could be arsed? Your opinions are sketchy at best. You seem much happier posting other people's unfounded allegations.

I am not jumping to the defence of alleged sex-offenders. I am jumping to the defence of people who have been accused of a heinous crime without a shred of evidence being presented, and people like you are metaphorically licking their screen with glee at the excitement of it all. And excuse my use of 'not guilty', it must be the four years I spent studying law that has affected my semantics. Furthermore, if was looking for a discussion about semantics with someone on my level, your name wouldn't spring to mind.
