My home is a Housing Association property, formerly known as a council house, and in my garden I have two large apple trees at the side of the house, can't see them from inside, my house is an end of terrace. Every single summer, and we've lived here since 2004, so its a long term issue, the local kids climb these trees and throw apples at people, other kids and cars. The majority of the time I get people knocking on my door going mad. I have to explain they aren't my kids, and have no right to be in my garden. There is no point speaking to these kids or the parents, been there, done that, got a torrent of abuse. Lovely.

Anyway its already started again for this year. Every year I vow I'll apply for the council to cut them down, because its an absolute nuisance, and I think I've finally had enough. One mum of one of these kids kicked off a couple of days ago when I asked her to stop her lad from doing this. She said I should be keeping an eye on the trees and if her son falls she'll sue me for neglect. Like I'm meant to spend all my time policing a godamm tree. I think not.

What would you do? I don't like the idea of felling the trees, but I don't see another way?

Can you get someone with a ladder to pick the apples? Or perhaps get a few neighbours who complain to you about them to help you?

I reckon you should harvest a load of rocks and when the kids collect the apples have a fight to the death with their apples and your rocks

Contact the local councillor and explain to them, maybe they could put a couple of those circle type fences round them to stop kids being able to climb them?

Drill nails into the tree too so when they climb them they get cut

Yeah. Adhere broken glass to the trunk and bottom branches.

I think the only thing to do is to get them chopped down, or remove all the fruit, which you will have to do every year. Taking a chainsaw to them is the only permanent solution as far as I can see. Explain to the council it's a health and safety issue and they will be round like a shot.

All kidding aside: if the council won't remove them for all the reasons you have stated: is there someone you know who could 'damage' them to the point that they are a H&S issue? Discretly if you get my drift.....

there is a problem with damaging the trees or cutting them down beacuse these trees may have preservation orders on them if that is the case you could be fined upto 15,000 per tree if you did go down that route, you can phone the council to check.

It's a shame Kate,that you may have to resort to felling them just because some kids and moreso their parents cannot behave in a civilised manner ,Can you ask the housing association to write the parents of the offenders a letter,it might scare them a bit I'm sure if the housing association knew they were throwing apples at people they could do something,other than that poison the apples!!,lol seriously I hope you get it sorted AND keep the trees.
