REM by a mile actually. I like Guns n' Roses but they had about 2 or 3 great albums and then were gone for so long. REM churned out so many great albums and there's more variety to their music.

it's tricky really, i don't particularly care about either too much, and they've both done some great songs...but I think R.E.M. are more diverse.

R.E.M. easily, although I think they lost their spark when they signed up to Warner ('Shiney Happy People' is a guilty pleasure though).
