Default Christian rock band set for Easter hit

Quote:
A song by a disbanded Christian rock act could reach the top ten in the charts over Easter following a campaign to make the track a hit.

HistoryMaker by Delirious? is at number six in the midweek sales chart, which gives an indication of likely positions when the Top 40 is announced on Sunday.

It comes after a Facebook campaign to get a Christian tune to number one at a weekend of religious significance.

The campaign echoes the efforts to get Sir Cliff Richard to number one with The Millennium Prayer – the Lord's Prayer set to the tune of Auld Lang Syne – at Christmas in 1999.

That campaign became a cause célèbre for the singer's fans when it emerged that Radio 2 had not playlisted the track.

The Facebook group Christian music topping the UK Charts! has more than 50,000 members who have been buying two versions of HistoryMaker – a studio version and a live version from the band's farewell concert.

They were inspired by the Rage Against The Machine campaign which took Killing In The Name to last year's Christmas number one in an effort to keep X Factor winner Joe McElderry from the slot.

Two separate groups of Delirious? fans combined forces to concentrate their efforts via the networking site.

The band members are donating all their profits from the downloads to projects supported by the charity CompassionArt, which helps people in poverty.

Next week another Facebook campaign is planning to mobilise supporters of threatened BBC radio station 6 Music. The aim is to get Half Man Half Biscuit's track Joy Division Oven Gloves to number six in the charts.
The Telegraph

Already No. 3 on iTunes, it's shaping up to be quite a chart contender this week! Thoughts?

Im sick of these stupid campaigns. It just distorts the charts. Buy a song because you like it not because youre a sheep following orders.

Fake BS. And their chart position is meaningless. Should actually be disqualified. Do the chart officials not have rules against these manipulative campaigns? Well they need to get some!

It was acceptable and refreshing in December. Now it's a horse for any old group of fans to ride. Mind you knowing the way these Christians kick themselves into gear, they could do it .
