Always destined to go tits up? Can I recommend you look at the governments of both World Wars, also the governments of the 1930's before you make ludicous statements.

Secondly as I said look it up, coalition formed by Asquith in 1915, there was a split within the liberal party between asquith and Lloyd George, LD lead the government , election in 1918 a coalition government was re elected and sat till 1922. (WW1 ended in 1918). The coalition split in 1922 Bonar Law was invited to form a government - (first and only PM not born in the uk) Conservatives won the election at the end of 22. In the spring of 1929, Baldwin disolved parliament expecting to be returned. Instead, on May 30 MacDonald’s Labour Party received 288 seats compared with the Conservative Party’s 260, with the Liberals again holding the balance of power, with 59 seats. MacDonald formed his second government, again with Liberal consent, if not support. A coalition type government of one form or another continued running the country till the end of the second world war (1939-1945) |

Yes as the Meetings are doing so well. As Dezzy stated he wants the LibDems who enter the Conservative Posts to keep a 24/7 watch on them. So see this as a David Cameron PM with new Bolder LibDem Co-System. It will be Far Far better than New Dead Labour. It Is Time For Radical Change. Bliss. |

It'll last around a year I think, we'll have another election sooner rather then later.

The one thing that favours a workable coalition is the personalities of the two party leaders which are actually more similar than dissimilar in terms of background and life experiences (unlike Brown and Clegg lol). Brown must be about to spontaneously combust as he watches his dreams of glueing himself to Cleggy boy go down the toilet.
What everyone has forgotten in all of this is the Monarch's constitutional right to influence the outcome, and she is more than likely to agree to a minority Tory government should Cameron request to go it alone. The precedence for this is the 1974 election when Ted Heath (the then PM), with only 297 seats, was unable to reach an agreement with the Liberal leader, Thorpe who had won 14 seats, and Heath resigned. Harold Wilson then formed a minority government with only 301 seats. Six months later there was another General Election and Wilson was returned to power with a small majority.

"What everyone has forgotten in all of this is the Monarch's constitutional right to influence the outcome". For starters UK doesn't have a constitution...parliamentary convention and custom are based on precedent so talking of a"constitution" highlights your own lack of knowledge of your own country parliament. Sad really given your condescending tone when you seaid "wha everyone has forgotten". But here's what is REALLY funny. The queen not only has NO constitutional right to influence elections but it's amazing you think she ought to be able to . So you want an unelected toff to override democracy. Shows what little respect or true understanding you have for the concept "angus". The queen only has a "right" to vote like the rest of you and chooses NOT to vote for fear of seeming to influence elections. That's right... none of your royals vote ...they want to AVOID influencing election.( but angus wants them to actually step in and choose for the electorate). You'd be scary if you weren't so funny. mahahahahaha!! |

If a time came to pass, for instance, when a law threatened the freedom or security of her subjects and citizens, the Queen could decline royal assent, free as she is from the constraints of party politics. Furthermore, armed removal of her by Parliament or Government would be difficult, as the monarch remains commander-in-chief of the armed forces, who swear an oath of allegiance to her. I talk rubbish? LOL - Some of your posts are virtually incoherent and totally pointless. Condescending and arrogant? Pot/Kettle springs to mind ![]()

The queen CAN not nor ever should have any influence on politics under ANY circumstances. Rubbish cliches like " oh boo woo your twisting my words" are as sad as " oh boo woo your trolling poor lil'ol me". Both of which you regularly try. You said that the queen not only HAS the right ( crap) but OUGHT to get involved....that's not me twisting your words. Not only doesn't she has a right under the constitution ( again there ain't one!!!) but you wanting her to interfere in UK's politics shows what little understanding or respect you have for democracy and due process. Oh and her being commander of the military is strictly CEREMONIAL lol ... again your low opinion of democracy is clearly on display given you think she can call on the military to sort stuff out. Why do I need to point out stuff about your own country. Maybe it's time you left this politics stuff alone :P ... you sound like what you want is a return of the feudal system...a nice modern dictatorship? |
