Default Anti Twilight?

Errr hate it!!!
Totally ruined vampires.

Saw the trailer for eclipse when I was in the cinema last week and actually laughed out loud at it.
What a waste...

Yes I know it was books first, the author was sh** also.
Used the same adjectives over and over....
OH SPARKLY VAMPIRE!
No, just no!

Anyway, is there all ready some sort of anti Twilight club going on?
Shall we start one?

Terribly written nonsense angsty-teen crap.

That said, I found the first movie alright. A good 'movie' (ie. one you watch for idle entertainment, not to be moved or wowed with its message/art)

Erm, surprisingly (to me) I loved the books. I read all 4 in about a week! I couldn't put them down!
I have my tickets for Eclipse already... The films are crap compared to the books but they're useful for some Cullen oggling!
I could tell you more about how obsessed my friends and I became actually... but I won't, as I think the slagging would be severe and I may even be banished from here for ever!

It's a pathetic franchise robbing bits and bobs from other more well written vampire stories and wrapping them up in Myers hideous, repetetive writting style. And the movies ... somehow ... made it even worse.

It’s a perfect storm of co-mingling fan-worship, too. You’ve got the teenage girl demographic, infatuated with this…fucking vapid, vacant pasty-faced asshole, with that face you just want to ram into a men’s room doorknob until his teeth litter the ground like bloody chiclets. That godawful brooding intensity, that mysterious “I’m the biggest, sexiest mistake you’d ever make, ladies, because I’m fucking dangerous” scowl that makes all the women drool.

Tis' an entire franchise based around a pale, dreary bore who always drones on about his own existential angst, his eternal torment, his alienation from human society, and the constant struggle to contain the beast of his infinite rage forever crawling in his skin, lest it surface and harm those he loves.

I hate it I hate it I fucking hate it.

Haha.. That made me laugh with quite a lot of force! I completely know what you mean, but you're right about him making women drool. Strangely enough, the teenagers who this is all written for seem to be indifferent towards the Edward attraction... it seems to be older women who are re-entering their youth and obsessing over a sparkly man in a silver volvo. ( I am not calling myself "an older woman") Well, I'm certainly not a teenager..

Aye, the Twilight phenomenon seems to know no age limits. I have a 7 year old sister, a 19 year old shag on the side, and a 34 year old aunt who are all equally into it.

I think (for us oldies anyway) that Meyer manages to capture completely the feelings of teenage angst associated with affairs of the heart during our schooldays. The whole "does he like me" "does he hate me" "god he spoke to me" "why hasn't he spoken to me today" and then the feeling of utter desolation and devastation of being dumped!
When you're in your 30s with kids, mortgage, housework and responsibilities in general, those feelings seem a lifetime away so I think that's why the books are popular amongst women. My friend said "god they make me feel just like a teenager again"
Also Edward may be a ridiculous character to a lot of people, but again to women he has it going on.. big time! He is quite dominant and selfish in a lot of ways but will do anything for his woman and also (as he was born in 1901) has a lot of old fashioned values...
God, I'm wittering on on a public forum and standing up for a fictional VAMPIRE!! WTF is wrong with me??

As poorly written as they are, I can see your points. However, most of them relate to women. So we can draw the line .

Any man that likes Twilight is off the cool list forever.

Forever.

Yep, pretty much how I view it apart from the fact that you don't have to smash him against a doorknob because he and the plot are completely toothless to begin with. Vacuous rubbish that makes a mockery of the vampire myth.

The only fans of it on the site I know of are either too nice and afraid of debate to defend it, or too incoherent.

They're guilty pleasures for me, I read the books out of sheer boredom and I find the films decent but ultimately disposable films, like Shaun said. They're good for a bit of brain off entertainment. They're badly written and trashy but I enjoyed them for their ironic value.
