Default Should the producers pick housemates with secrets
and then reveal the secrets to the rest of the housemates half way though the series
like in bb5, should they have just outed nadia for entertainment value

Good secrets? Secrets are generally secrets because they are not good things. If you had people apply for this because they had secrets and wanted to share them, you'd end up with the kind of mess who appear on Jeremy Kyle and love to air their dirty laundry. Rather dull in my opinion.

Good secret as in secret that will shock and make you think completely different about that person
a bad secret would be "i go and play bridge with my nan every saturday"
a good secret would be "i have sex with my nan every saturday"

My point being though that nobody really cares and that those willing to share such a sordid secret as that are better suited to Jeremy Kyle.

I don't get this whole need for sex, nudity, fighting and secrets. It seems like a way for people to fixate on 'entertaining' stuff because they have nothing going on in their own drab little lives.

People need to stop living so desperately for reality TV and start living in their own reality.

They do that in France's version of BB, Secret Story, and it's rubbish - look at how bad most of the secrets are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Story_2011_(France)

They just need people with interesting personalities, not interesting backgrounds

A combination of both would be great

That's true, an interesting personality can definitely entertain people, an interesting background won't necessarily do that.
