Default Stores 'ashamed' to sell religious cards... but obscene ones litter the High Street

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...gh-street.html

I wouldn't exactly say that they 'litter the high street' that seems a bit of an exaggeration but it is probably not a good sign for the world when this happens.

Supermarkets are usually quite mercinary and will sell whatever people buy most of, I would say its more likely that the demand for religious cards has decreased. 70% of the population may well be christian, but it will be to varying degrees and doesn't necessarily mean they will buy religious cards

Nothing more than basic economics. Demand = supply.

That's the way it is: that's what people demand these days, that's what they get.

...I was going to say pretty much the same...my boss is a good example, she's a devout Chriistian...I showed her a selection of cards, of which there were some religious ones and asked her which one she wanted to send out...she didn't chose the religious ones...whether it's a sad fact or not, it is a fact

that doesn't make it right, it just is an explanation for why it is.

You didn't ask whether it should be right or not or what made it right or not.

I gave an explanation as to why it is what it is: If you don't want discussion on it, why create the thread?

What struck me was the contrast between the two, religious to obscene it seems to have gone from from one extreme to another

The world is obscene now - surely you cannot just have noticed the shift? Morals are pretty thin on the ground these days - never mind expecting an upsurge in religious greetings cards.

They're not really obscene though, just tongue in cheek

The statistics speak for themselves, if people aren't buying them then the supermarkets won't stock them. Its just bad business sense.

It is indeed bad business sense to stock what does not sell, that there is no demand for.

Should it be a case of expecting card shops to stock what isn't demanded, let them stock up on religious cards that won't sell - help put them out of business, bankrupt them, owners have to sell up, have no income, can't pay mortgage/rent : lose house, end up on street.

Merry Christmas one and all. Religion: it's got a lot to answer for !

Religion is far more obscene than a rude sentiment on a card.
Religion is the cause of death of millions of people around the world every year!! how many people died as a result of a rude card???

Religion has had thousands of years to cause all those deaths but rude cards have only had a few years to do the same damage.

I personally dont think religion in itself is obscene, and there arent many religions that actually demand human sacrifice or require anyones death.

Think it is more to do with the way Man uses religion to his own ends, to control others or feed his demand for power over others.

Most religions actually require their adherents to respect others, if not even love them and care for them.

As for the increase in the more humerous type of cards and the decrease in the religious style of cards, it is due in some part to the demand of the public, but also in part due to producers deciding what they think we should be using, this is seen in other areas of modern life particualrly the clothing industry.

you're right this thread isn't about you so why have you tried to turn it into a thread about you?

See your posts above.

Bobnot has got it spot on. How many people died because of a rude / obscene greetings card......unless it was from dying laughing.
