Stacey Solomon has admitted that she is "hugely embarrassed" after being photographed smoking while seven months pregnant.

The X Factor and I'm A Celebrity star, who was voted 'Celebrity Mum of the Year 2011', was caught having four cigarettes in two hours outside The Works photographic studio in Fulham, south west London, earlier this week.



"I know it doesn't look good but I only have a few cigs a day. I don't think I've let down my fans, but I do get a little stressed at times and a ciggie helps me calm down," Solomon told The People.

"I desperately want to stop *smoking and I don't want to set a bad example. It's a tough habit to break but I'm going to give it my best shot."

The singer, who has a three-year-old son named Zach, confessed to smoking around six cigarettes a day and claimed that doctors had told her quitting would be "more stressful" on her body during the pregnancy.

Deborah Arnott, Chief Executive of campaigning charity Action on Smoking and Health, said: "If Stacey is smoking at seven months she's got a serious *problem. She is to be pitied as she's obviously heavily addicted. She needs help not condemnation."

Solomon, who is expecting her second child with fiancé Aaron Barnham, admitted last week that she doesn't like being pregnant, calling it "tiring and emotional.

I didnt even realise she smoked lol. Not everybody can stop, she reduced her intake at least. Im a bit shocked just because but I dont think she is any less 'lovely' because of this.

Er, yes they can they just choose not too. The whole some people can't quit smoking argument is bull**** (not aiming that at you btw just in general).

Its a biological fact that reg smokers crave nicotine actually
My mum stopped with me and my bro but everybody is different and some people dont have the will power (dont confuse that with 'choose') to fight the craving.

Yeah but people can quit smoking, they just have to want to quit. If they don't truly want to quit then it's impossible.

Some doctors recommend that pregnant women who smoke cut way down rather than quit completely as the the stress of trying to quit can be more harmful then a couple of cigarettes a day.

Knowing that she is heavily pregnant should be enough for her to give up. I know that I shouldn't but I genuinely do look down on her for smoking while pregnant.

I do not agree with pregnant women smoking, although some still do it knowing the risks but it is obviously hard for them to stop.

If a woman can't put her own needs and cravings aside for the sake of her unborn child then she shouldn't even think of being a mother. It's really quite disgusting. Babies born to mothers who smoke usually have a lower birth weight and are more prone to respiratory problems such as asthma. Smoking during pregnancy increases the danger of problems during delivery, not just for the baby but for the mother.

So the docs say. They also say carrots give you cancer. Doesnt stop people eating them though. Most recently they have decided ecstasy may cure cancer too...should all cancer sufferers go and get off their faces?

I believe in everything in moderation..and seriously cant see what harm a couple of ciggies a day will do. Yea if someone proper chainsmoked throughout the pregnancy it would be a problem...but a few wont make a difference at all IMO. If she smoked a lot before getting pregnant, and has cut down, its better than stopping outright, as the latter would send her stress levels through the roof, which also harms babies

People are way too judgemental when it comes to smoking. My sis had people stopping her in the street when she was pregnant moaning about it. I bet they wouldnt go into mc donalds and moan on at a pregnant person eating a load of junk food...which is just as bad really...

My mother smoked through her pregnancies with me, my sis and my brother. Does this mean she doesnt love us?!

And for the record, we were all born without problem, near our due dates, between 6-7pounds, and none of us have asthma or anything like that either. Her 5 ciggies a day did us no harm whatsoever

Four cigarettes in two hours is hardly "a couple of ciggies". At that rate she is on around 20 a day. Hardly moderation is it? If she doesn't care enough about the potential risks to her unborn child or herself, for that matter, then she's hardly a great advert for a caring mother either. And I speak as someone who gave up a 30 a day habit so I know exactly how hard it is to give up. Having my kids gave me the impetus and motivation to kick the habit for good - I certainly never wanted them to see me with a fag in my hand all the time, nor subject them to second hand smoking.

I will be as "judgmental" as I wish on a public forum - or are we not supposed to offer our opinions on stories in the news? It's a far cry from accosting individuals in the street to harrass them - that's just plain rude, unless of course they are infringing my personal space by forcing me to breath in their exhaled smoke. Then I will have my say. Sadly unborn babies and children don't have the option to protest do they?

Another with a victim complex it seems. I merely offered my own opinion. I suppose I should refrain from doing so in future incase someone takes it as me saying they arent allowed to offer opinions. Will leave this now before my words get twisted again
