Last November Armstrong, along with three other astronauts, received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest US civilian award.

He was the commander of the Apollo 11 spacecraft. He and fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin spent nearly three hours walking on the moon.

If you look through this website you will see that the claims of the conspiracy theorists do not hold any water.

Making such claims undermines the main achievement for which we remember him by and debases his memory by calling him a liar and a fraud, the antithesis of the truth.

If you wish to persist with making these spurious claims then I would suggest you start another thread here, so others can continue with the tributes to a great man. Or you could register with this forum and try your luck here.



Would it be more appropriate if a mod could split those comments off into another thread?

Meanwhile

Neil never claimed to be a hero and always gave credit to the many others working at Mission Control. After he left NASA he went into quietly teaching aerospace engineering. A truly great man who preferred the quiet life rather than the razzmatazz of the fleetingness of fame and celebratory.

We will not see the likes of his kind again.
