what are your htoughts on this and how would you advise your friends to not smoke during pregnancy? especially when its likely to be an early pregnancy and the child is prone to infection?

I think it's up to the mom.

And I don't smoke, or ever plan to be pregnant, so I don't wouldn't see it as my place to advise friends.

How is it hounding to make a polite suggestion that smoking harms children in the womb ? especially when the pregnancy is in doubt. the children who are in the womb are far more vulnerable than those born. Im sure you know this but choose to conveniently ignore it. their life is hanging in the balance and theyre also prone to infection when the waters break. the slightest illness at that stage can bring about severe disability or death. I personally do suggest to my friends smoking is dangerous to their unborn children. i dont force them to not smoke I just politely mention it. its the least I can do to help save a life. Have you actually studied how much damage smoking can do to unborn children?

Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your baby.

When you smoke, you breathe in over 4,000 chemicals from the cigarette. The smoke goes from your lungs, into your bloodstream and that blood flows to your placenta and umbilical cord, right into your baby’s body. This causes your baby to struggle for oxygen and their tiny heart to beat even faster. The chemicals from the cigarette smoke also stop essential nutrients from reaching your baby. This affects:

•your baby’s heart, making it work harder
•your baby’s growth rate
•the development of your baby’s brain
Effects on your baby’s health
If you smoke during pregnancy, your baby:

•is at increased risk of stillbirth
•is more likely to be born early (prematurely; before week 37 of the pregnancy), which can cause feeding, breathing and health problems
•won’t cope as well with any birth complications
•is more likely to be born underweight. On average, babies of smokers are 200g (8oz) lighter than other babies. A low birth weight adds to the risks of stillbirth, and makes your baby weaker and at greater risk of disease with a higher risk of hearing loss, learning difficulties and sight problems as well as cerebal palsy
•is more likely to have a problem keeping warm
•is at increased risk of cot death
•is more likely to get infections as a child, such as inflammation of the middle ear, and have health conditions that require hospital treatment, such as asthma
•is more likely to smoke when they’re older
Low birth weight in babies is also linked to problems that develop as an adult, such as:

•coronary heart disease: when your heart’s blood supply is blocked
•type 2 diabetes: a condition caused by too much glucose in the blood

I dont run an ice cream business. If I did I would supply healthy ice creams too. people outside the womb have rights to chose if they want an ice cream, an unborn child fighting for life in the womb does not. they are far more defenseless and vulnerable and their life is at far greater immediate risk and they dont have any choice in the latter, compared a person choosing to eat an ice cream. also eating an ice cream does not kill peope passively as smoking does. so your example is an epic fail

as for the vehicles. have you ever travelled by vehicle, by plane, bus, car. I suspect you have as has 99% of people on the planet. I have bought a dual car which runs on electricity at least half the time so burns up less fossil fuels. I also have invested in the roof panel to generate some of my own electricity.

I agree I am guilty of polluting the planet as are we all. we are all hypocrites to one degree or another. councils destroy town centres and rebuild them 3 miles away so everyone has to drive even more. the railways are still a farce , too pricey and no tracks to these out of town shopping centres. so theres no joined up thinking. I do support green policies on the whole. global warming and climate change is real its happening here and now.
I do all my refuge collections,I take the rest to the tip, I never throw trash on the street. In the meantime I await the glorious day when these corrupt governments and car manufacturers stop buying up all the electric car inventions just to hide them away and instead produce clean cars. Id happily buy a fleet of electric cars. these things could have been built 100 years ago.

If I were in the position where I had a surrogate carrying my child then yes, I would ask her not to smoke because I'd be worrying about the health of the kid. And it's not really her kid either, so.

But for women in general, then it's not something I can really judge given the fact that I'm a man and I'll never be pregnant myself etc.

yes but the baby is still being killed and yet you have nothing to say about it?

I dont at all. I know a woman who killed 2 of her children from smoking while pregant.

That being said, it is all about moderation. You should be able to give your kid an ice cream cone every once in a while just like the baby would probably be fine if the pregnant woman had a smoke every once in a while ( if she RLY had to). I think it is absolutely ridiculous people saying they should smoke however much they want when pregnant, people have to have responsibility for their children ffs

You can't really stop someone from doing something they do everyday (so vague).

It's up to the mother though. If the mother is not going to smoke when she has the baby, but smoke when the baby is born there's still going to be damage.

i didnt advocate stopping them, but offeringsome advice and information is all Id suggest. do all these smokers actually know how much damage theyre causing their unborn child? these radical liberals bang on its the mothers right to smoke, well guess what, a few cigarettes could see a lifetime of pain health problems and disability for a child that may otherwise have been born healthy. the mother and child then has to deal with that pain for the rest of their lives, all for a few cigarettes. information is key.

I don't think you're seeing the point here- either way smoking isn't healthy for a child.

Of course Im seeing that point, smoking is bad period. its you whose not seeingthe point. when a childs in the womb its infinitely more fragile and its life is far more at risk than when it is a child at a later stage in development. I hate smokingand passive smoking is horrible. butsmoking when pregnant has more chance of actually disabling and killing a child than at any other stage in their lives (if they have a life)
