She's not basic IMO. She consistently delivers good pop music - if that's basic then sign me up for several more albums of basic. She's got a tried and tested formula that works; nothing wrong with sticking to what sells the most records. She's dealing with the music business - both parts: the music and the business. Lady Gaga is so pretentious it makes me cringe watching her perform. I can see why so many people find her interesting but personally I think it's all style and no substance - it's not that she isn't capable, because she is, but she's too busy trying to create an image she's forgotten to create the music to back it up. Katy hasn't progressed as an artist music wise, voice wise, image wise etc. Roar could easily fit in her debut album. She just makes throwaway pop music, and I do like her songs but I wouldn't really download most of them. But I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it just means she's easily replaceable, and I think she accepts that which I like because she doesn't try be something she's not like Gaga

Ahh I see what you mean. Nah I get why some people wouldn't like that; a lot of people who are passionate about music want to see growth or development of some kind in their artists - but personally I don't think there's any rush. There's a fine line between growing and chasing trends; staying the same and being a one trick pony. It's hard to keep yourself current. Katy Perry just had one of the most impressive album campaigns of all time, so to me it's no surprise she's making similar music... because why shouldn't she? If she just made lots of money out of a particular style, then of course she's going to carry on doing that for as long as possible.

Same could be said for Gaga with 'The Fame' she could easily make another album like this if she wanted to but she'd rather be creative with her music unlike Katy / her label who just want hits and money.
