Using a term for gay as a derogatory insult - it may not be blatant but I would still class it as 'casual' homophobia.
As a society we no longer deem casual racism appropriate (thank God), why should homophobia be any less of an issue in 2014?

By brushing aside I meant that fans of her will not take on board that she makes comments like these nor will they take notice of them. I'd be mortified if Ashleigh was revealed to say things like this. When Mark was bullying Pav, I was mortified with Ashleigh's reaction, yet people on here thought I was overreacting. With Helen, all of her faults are either brushed aside or seen as reasons to like her. It's a double standard and it seems like she can do no wrong to people that like her.

This couldn't be further from the truth IMO, plenty of Helen fans have posted about her many flaws in previous threads.

Yet still champion her as the winner of the show. I can't see somebody taking on board all of those flaws and still believing somebody deserves any sort of success for essentially upsetting and bullying people for an entire summer. I can't imagine what she's like in the real world.
