It was being handled properly until that thug cop came charging in.

When I was that age we used to congregate in parks. We'd just chill out watch the lads playing football and have a bit of a gossip. That's not allowed any more. Our daughter got moved on recently because there were four of them and apparently four is one too many!!

We’re aware of a video posted on Facebook which shows officers detaining and arresting a number of people in Taunton.

While we welcome and expect public scrutiny when officers are out serving our communities, we also ask people not to jump to conclusions without knowing the full facts.

At 5.29pm today we responded to a report a woman was being assaulted in Victoria Park.


On arrival a large group of young people refused to co-operate with officers and five people between the ages of 15 and 34 were subsequently detained on suspicion of affray.

The 18-year-old assault victim we were originally called to assist is currently in hospital receiving treatment for a number of injuries.

An investigation is now underway and we’d ask people not to speculate while it takes place.

Body worn video was worn by officers during the incident and will be reviewed as part of the inquiry.

We expect the highest level of professionalism and diligence from all our officers and staff when on duty.

Yeah you could tell the teens were being mouthy little ****s before the video started but that police officer who came in all aggressive and pushed the boy should definitely be disciplined.

Not he was getting in the officers face when they was dealing with a serious assault on a young girl which they refused to cooperate with

Yes, but him being, you know, a police officer should know how to handle situations like that and control his temper. Both were at fault.

That looks like fake news to me. The uniforms and the amount of officers involved doesn't seem quite right. It all seems a little off.
If it isn't fake it's quite disturbing how aggressive the kids towards the police, we wouldn't have dared when I was a kid and I grew up on a rough estate.

A combination of liberal policies and indulging children too much giving them a sense of entitlement as well as social media where kids/youngsters gain a sense of strength from other like-minded kids which can lead to aggressive response when challenged by authority.

They don't question their own behaviour they just lash out at anyone, verbally or physically, daring to challenge it.

I think a good upbringing that instills the right values rather than an upbringing that just teaches that shouting one's rights and entitlements at everyone is much more productive for everyone.

Some weird parts to the clip though, almost staged but maybe it just happened that way.

You are right about a good upbringing for the most part although I don't even know if it's bad upbringing, or just that some kids are indulged and spoiled to a point that they think they are in the right all the time.

I understand there initial response with pushing them back but when they randomly grabbed whoever they could get and put them in that choke hold position that was an example of power going to their head
Police should be trained to deal with the WORST people in our society so they shouldn't have to act like this towards some bratty kids

Seems like both sides are at fault but the officer more so considering that remaining calm under pressure is vital for officers and he lost control. An officer like the one in the video is a danger and a liability.

I saw someone else post this and I have to agree with it

Saw this and thought it quite apt....

First off.... we don't know what took place before this video started filming...

However it does seem fairly reasonable to assume that:
a) a male has been arrested as he appears to be sat in cuffs at the start
b) this group APPEAR to be his friends and are most unhappy at this
c) the first Bobby is calm and tells them all to go home and to move away several times
d) they ignore this, he's surrounded, they're verbally aggressive, encroaching on his personal space and he's outnumbered
e) it would appear that they have either already called for further units - or they were on their way anyway
f) the first thing the "backup" Bobby sees is his colleague, surrounded by angry youths, pushing a hand away so he comes steaming in to create some space - albeit quite vociferously

From there, it all kicks off and those "youths" that appear to want a fight, find one.

Just what is wrong with people? If your friend is arrested, go to the Police Station and complain. Yes, sometimes arrests are wrong. Sometimes Coppers can be dickheads. It happens. It's the real world. Complain and it WILL be investigated.

Never, in the history of the world, has fronting up to the Police with your mates in the park made them think, "Hang on lads, they're being so loud and obnoxious they may just have a point here."

It's just disgraceful. Kicking a copper in the back when he's arresting someone? I hope she and her parents are proud of the woman she's growing up into because that's disgusting - no matter who you are.

On a week when the vast majority of the public are full of nothing but praise and admiration for the Police and extended Emergency Services families - this really shows the worst of youngsters once again.

Inevitably there will be comments saying "But they were only children! Why do adults need to use such force on children?!"

There were lots of them. They behaved like feral animals and their behaviour was causing each other to escalate. If you think you could solve that situation with hugs and a poem you're simply wrong. Please, go and volunteer with your local force and try and win over your next few ASBO calls with hugs.

So this is a balanced and reasonable view.

Please don't fight our Police. It's pretty stupid.

I think it's obvious they were being mouthy but it was the police who caused the scuffle. The pushing was the insigator of that and therfore I honestly think the officers involved should take the blame.

We shouldn't tolerate feral kids either Mocky,they know they can do and say as they like ,this is the future,mouthy, gob****es who have no fear of the police, as for the video the one policeman went too far he should be brought to book, as for the others weren't they trying to get to someone who was being attacked and is now in hospital (that is a life at risk),no need for those kids to obstruct them like they did,pretty disgusting behaviour all round,someone could have dies while they were spouting their bile.
