Default Why am I being taxed so much

So since I’ve started working I’ve been getting taxed quite a bit

My net income is £2400 over 3 months however I have been taxed £500 in total (£1900), surely this is far too much?

I think you should talk to your boss about it, some people do get taxed so much but in April you can get it all back if you have been overpaying.

Well you've been taxed about 20% of your earnings, which is the standard rate, but you'll get a tasty rebate if it's too much, or if you don't end up earning enough to pay tax (£10k) so it's all good.

20% isn't the standard rate that's basic rate ie emergency tax.

Phone the tax office Will and tell them you've been placed on an emergency tax code.

Either way that's after personal allowance, Will hasn't made anywhere near the personal allowance so he shouldn't have been taxed at all.

And 2400 he should have paid no more than a couple of hundred quid tops

I know, but like I said upthread, if he doesn't end up making £11.5k in the tax year, it will be rebated, so it's all good.

£100 is 20% of £500, so you're paying the standard tax rate. Does your contract have the possibility/flexibility for full time work? If so, you probably have the standard tax code.
