Default Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" (FIRST TRAILER RELEASED)

Quote:
Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from the writer-director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.
Official Website

The movie will heavily revolve around the heavily-changing film and TV business within Hollywood in 1969, whilst also including the "counter-culture" aspect of that time with the youth culture/Hippies and in particular, perhaps the most infamous group of Hippies, The Manson Family.

Spoiler:

It didn't drag as I thought a 2hr30m+ Tarantino film might (I didn't even make it through The Hateful Eight, which attests to how short my attention span can be). I'd read a spoiler about the ending, or at least I thought I had - I knew Sharon Tate didn't die, but for some reason I thought that the actor and the stuntman were killed in her place. imho that ending would have been more thematically appropriate (old Hollywood chivalry and heroism dying out and being replaced by the senseless violence of Vietnam and the 70s, etc etc), and it was slightly odd to have a mostly-happy, mostly-peaceful ending to a Tarantino film.

With the ending considered, I still stand by my initial fears that the film would be more about a glamourised fantasy of the 60s than anything actually about Sharon Tate, and I don't see why her story was rewritten and depicted peripherally through a film about Leonardo DiCaprio having a midlife crisis/Brad Pitt overfeeding his dog. But in spite of that, as a fairly fluffy (by Tarantino's standards) film about 60s Hollywood, I can't say I didn't enjoy it. And anyone who says the best character was anyone other than Janet (aka the "WHAT THE **** DID YOU DO TO MY CAR?" lady) is a dirty rotten liar.

I still have no idea who Luke Perry played despite having Googled and Wikipedia'd it, mind you

I’m glad it exceeded your initially very low expectations MB!

I believe the reasoning for his inclusion of Sharon as a secondary character in this is because there’s a theme running through the movie of “an end of an era” and eventual loss of innocence that was the 60’s hippy movement. Sharon and co’s murders basically personified these themes in real life. That weekend, the 60’s died a death, for want of a better word. He also wanted to celebrate her life seeing as she’s become sadly more famous for her brutal death, and in most cases less famous than her murderers. She was shaping up to be the next big thing at the time. Very sad.

I’ve seen the Janet clip too so I know exactly what you’re referring to, hilarious!

Great review!

The older he's getting the more he's looking like him I think.

Looking forward to this, I love Tarantinos films

All the big names just love being associated with a Tarentino film...they are all just gripping brilliant films...

Also, Mike Moh stars as Bruce Lee.

LOVE that there's actual, real "of that time" movie stars, directors, industry people and even Manson Family members being played in this. Hopefully Damian Lewis will be a convincing Steve McQueen!

I'm just very happy QT has finally decided to step away from the Westerns!

No, it's about Hollywood during the Manson Family's reign of terror and the Tate/LaBianca murders.

The idea of this film is already gross and they decide to add THAT to the cast?

Yeah I'm not in favour of her, but it seems her part is somewhat minor thankfully, just one of the non-murderous girls from the Manson Family (Catherine "Gypsy" Share, not involved with Tate etc).

Burt Reynolds, who plays George Spahn in the movie (owner of the Ranch that The Family lived on when the murders took place) passed away today.

How this affects the production idk. Hopefully he's done all of his parts and has one last big hit posthumously.

Confirmed: Burt Reynolds sadly did not film any of his parts before his death, therefore ranch owner George Spahn will be re-cast.
