Funnily enough I just started watching this and have finished series 1.

It’s funny because I like a lot of the characters in this show with only a few I don’t like but they all have quite a bit of depth to them.

Omar is cool. I do find him amusing in the sense that he’s like the taxman for drug dealers . He’s hardcore, fearless and he has a lot of morals and a code that he sticks by which I do think is a very good quality of his.

I actually quite like D’Angelo as well. I feel sorry for him because you can tell he doesn’t really agree with certain things that go on in “the game” and he’s been pretty much forced into that lifestyle. Many would probably just perceive him as a bit of a punk as well because he’s quite soft but he has a lot of heart and is surprisingly quite intellectual in other areas which is probably why he got along with Wallace so well. This is easily my favourite scene of his so far

Bird is probably one of the characters I disliked. He was a foul mouthed, crude and I found it oddly amusing when he was getting beat down in the interrogation room

I always love a new addition to the Wire fan list. Keep watching it gets even better.

I’ve really enjoyed Series 1 so I’ll continue watching. I’m surprised I haven’t watched it sooner tbh and it’s a shame the series themselves are very short but I’m looking forward to them nonetheless

Keep going with it, its my fave show of all time. I watched it again about six months ago and got right back into it

After watching it all you'll probably come to the conclusion that the first season is one of the weaker seasons The third and fourth seasons are just incredible. Some of the best television I've ever watched. When I recently watched it, I thought it looked a bit dated in the early seasons but the quality of each seasons plot is as good a I've seen.

Thanks GiRTh There’s just a lot of depth to this show so I can see why it is very popular and and easy to do rewatches. After everything that’s happened in the first season I can only imagine the second is just as good.

Herc and Carver get going in the third season. I find their interactions in season one and two annoying to watch.

Bunk is consistently good thru all five series. Hard working veteran detective, always funny, always drinking.

Daniels - probably the only character who consistently does the right thing.

Freamon - The wise old analytical detective.

Characters who hardly get mentioned when it comes to faves are

Prop Joe - just brilliant in the later series,
Rawls - The biggest ball breaker in the show

And all the place names they mention are real Baltimore streets. When they talk about North and Pulaski, Edmonton Gully and Pimlico Hill, those are real Baltimore places.

One of the many Wire drinking games is to take a sip whenever a street name is mentioned.

In the first season, take sip when ever D'angelo says 'Mos Def', when ever a character is getting drunk, whenever Prez gives us some exposition, whenever Bodie spits etc.

Sounds like a great game, will have to get me a crate of beers first . I’m glad I’m not the only one who picked up on D’Angelo saying ‘Mos Def’ and Bodie spitting all the time

There are different drinking games for each season but its mainly about getting drunk, mentioning street names, McNulty saying 'What the ****** did I do', someone mentioning 'The game' etc.

That makes sense. I borrowed it from my local library back in 2003. Its was full price for the DVD's - 50 quid - and that was far too rich or me at the time.

You should write a review of each episode as you watch it.

The dvd boxset cost me £15 for all seasons. On Amazon Prime it would’ve cost me £20 just for season 1 on its own

I was actually going to do this but I didn’t know if anyone here had seen the show before. I haven’t had the time to start Series 2 yet but I have a week off work after this Friday so I’m gonna just watch S1 again through this week and start S2 on the weekend

Get them all watched. Just to see how the characters develop. Its a show where you can watch episodes over again but there are some amazing plot line coming up that you will definitely want to watch again.

I might watch them again too. I think it was more like a year ago that I last watched it so time for a refresh.

Default So who was your favourite character/s in a tv series eg The Wire ~ Omar

All the lovers of The Wire will also love the ‘kinda prequel’ mini series ..

As I recall it was set in the same area .. same writers and production team with many of the same actors ..except I think a few of the actors had role reversals.. drug dealers in first series played Police in The Wire ..

It’s a while since I watched it tbf

The Corner was the series ..

I think they're now part of the box set so he should already have them. There's three - Jimmy and Bunk first meeting, Young Omar and Young Prop Joe
