A teenage girl has been stabbed to death in Croydon, with another teenager arrested in connection with the incident.

Police and paramedics were called at 8.30am this morning to reports of a 15-year-old girl stabbed on Wellesley Road, near the Whitgift shopping centre.

The Mirror reported that the incident occurred on a school bus.

The road has been closed northbound between the Whitgift Centre and St Michael’s Road, with a number of buses on diversion.

Videos posted on social media show a large police and ambulance presence near a bus stop.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, in charge of local policing, said: “Our immediate thoughts are with this young girl’s family who are facing the most tragic of news. Our officers are with the girl’s family to support them.

“I am in contact with the local community, who are clearly as concerned as we are about this tragic incident. I shall continue to update them throughout the day.

A little off-topic but I stayed in a hotel in Croydon once (about 14 years ago) and God knows it was absolutely awful. If you’re claustrophobic you would’ve nearly died.

I just read a report that she was stabbed just after rejecting flowers from a boy she had dumped the day before. It really is scary for kids out there now

I don't know if it's because when I was younger I would normally be given more realistic goals that I haven't turned out like the Machete guy, or if there's something in the Water with younger generations, but I don't think that I can remember anyone when I was at School wielding around a Machete because a girl told him "no" or vice versa where a guy rejected a girl.

It's really bizarre how society has gone in terms of relationships and sex.

To be fair, society used to be a lot worse when it comes to this sort of thing. The main negative difference now is that knives are part of it. Before that it was spiking (which still happens) and before that legal rape from a woman’s husband (sick on another level). People have always been bad like that.

Clamp down on knife-crime, the government will not. But let’s stop anyone born after 2009 from legally being able to buy cigarettes with their money. Makes perfect sense.
