I'm just going to be blunt and say it.

Isn't one of the big narrative points of the original Snow White supposed to be that Snow White is prettier than the Evil Queen, and that the Evil Queen is meant to be fuelled by jealousy around that to some extent?

So why on earth is Gal Gadot (one of the most attractive women currently in Hollywood) playing the Evil Queen?

Why not cast them for more appropriate roles though?

Gal Gadot being the Evil Queen kind of nukes a part of the narrative.

And Joss Stone being the "ugly" Wife in The Tudors definitely doesn't sound like good casting at all.

…(…I think it’s a good casting……)…The Evil Queen is evil but she’s also incredibly beautiful…hence the mirror, mirror in the wall…who is the fairest of them all…?..she’s always been the most fair and the most beautiful one until Snow White became more beautiful as she became an adult…?…Gal Gadot would be closer in age also to the Evil Queen than she would be to Snow White …she’s a bit younger maybe, but still close enough to be that character…Snow White, I guess would be late teens/early twenties…?…so Rachel Zeglar is a good cast for that character also, I think….

I think that personally the casting should be having Snow White as the prettier character, casting Gal Gadot or Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen imo kind of makes that part where Snow White is meant to be the prettier one almost impossible to achieve imo.

Well when I think back to the animated Disney made in the 1930's , The Evil Queen was never actually ugly physically ...the ironic thing is she made herself ugly by posing as a old witch/ hag to trick snow white . But she was jealous as the talking mirror said Snow white was the ' fairest of them all' ,I guess snow white had youth and kindness on her side, oh and she could sing aswell ...which automatically made her prettier .

I don't understand why a traditional European fairy tale - Snow White is a German story - that features a girl called Snow White "because her skin was a white as snow" has a Latino girl in the lead role. They've already moved the Danish Little Mermaid to the Caribbean. Meanwhile, a live action version of Moana features Catherine Laga'aias of Samoan heritage because they wouldn't dare cast a black girl or a white girl for that. I wouldn't expect a traditional African story to feature an Asian actor or a traditional Indian story to feature a white actor. So why is it acceptable to blind cast traditional European fairy tales but be true to heritage when a story comes from outside Europe?

in all fairness, Caribbean fits Little Mermaid quite well


and as for Moana, well overall it is hawaiian, but honestly Samoan culture is not hugely different to hawaiian culture
