I binge-watched S1 and S2 last week. I might be in the minority here, but I thought Vaughn did a good job of this, considering he is not known for 'straight' roles.

Kelly Reilly is a terrible actress though. Her face is so lifeless, and her delivery is really wooden.

McAdams and Farrell were amazing, as expected.

This is the first time I have seen Taylor Kitsch in anything except Friday Night Lights and I have to say I'm torn. I know his character is supposed to be deep and damaged, so I guess his "strong, silent type" delivery kinda works, but I don't know.. I would have to see him in something else. He is hot as hell though, so I can forgive dodgy acting

I went into this trying not to compare it to season one, and I'm glad, because they are chalk and cheese... S1 was a masterpiece. S2 was like a totally different show, but I still enjoyed it.

I'm looking forward to S3. They won't ever top S1 in my opinion, but the show still has huge potential.

..I agree with Vince, very sexy guy..also his character in the series, Frank..I really liked him..I know the acting felt wooden sometimes and he had some pretty corny lines but I think for me that was it as well though..his character was awkward about doing 'feelings' and showing any emotion even with his wife in a way because could he ever really, truly trust anyone..?...even though he shared more with her obviously than anyone else in his life...and I don't think he liked who he was, as a person but he knew that he had to be who he was and do the things he did/be cold I guess ..because more than anything else, he couldn't go back to having nothing ..not even if it meant walking away with the person he loved/she could but he couldn't because of his deep fears and associations ...

Were you wondering what sort of manly men would get into dark and twisted trouble in the third season of True Detective? If so, we've got bad news for you: According to a THR profile of new HBO programming head Casey Bloys, a third season of the crime anthology series is probably not on the menu. More likely, sources say, is a different series from creator Nic Pizzolatto, who signed an exclusive deal with HBO last fall. The news is not incredibly surprising — even at the height of True D mania, Pizzolatto said he couldn't imagine making more than three seasons of the show. There's no word on what Pizzolatto's other ideas could be, but knowing what happened in season two, a Hollywood satire is probably out of the question.

Mahershala Ali is in talks to star in the third season of “True Detective” at HBO, Variety has confirmed with sources.

While discussions are underway with the Oscar winner, Ali’s deal is not in place — plus, “True Detective” technically has not been given the Season 3 greenlight, though sources say the third season is happening.

Big True Detective news: Season 3 is officially happening, with HBO finally greenlighting a new round. Plus, after months of secrecy, there are all sorts of new details.

First: After a season spent in Los Angeles, the show is returning to its rural season 1 roots. The next round, starring a previously announced Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), will be set in the Ozarks. Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

Also, we have a logline: “The next installment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”

Also-also: Some behind-the-scenes details. Original showrunner Nic Pizzolatto will be the sole writer of the series (with the exception of episode 4, which he co-wrote with David Milch, who was brought on board to help Pizzolatto shape the season). Pizzolatto will direct with Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room), who is a newcomer to the franchise.

“I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy,” Pizzolatto said in a statement. “I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story.”


True Detective season 3’s setting can’t help bring to mind that another recent premium television crime drama used the same location — Netflix’s Ozark.

...I would thoroughly recommend series 3 as well Josy...it really did get back to the same standard as the first series and Mahershala Ali is absolutely mesmerising, his character is so absorbing......that’s what I love about it, the complexity of the characters which holds as much interest as the storyline with whatever crime they’re solving...the whole thing is just a great storyline and a great watch with great acting...I was absorbed the whole way through...
