Default Should politicians only have a set amount of holiday each year

in line with what ordinary workers get allowed?

Inspired by Arista's holiday thread.

Poll.....

they basically get the same holiday as teachers, so should teachers and therefore kids and university students only get 2 weeks too?

MPs aren’t teachers though, they serve the entire population year round so should therefore be at work year round

I think taking 2 holidays during a pandemic, with no deal brexit on the horizon is taking the piss. Reducing MP's/PM's holiday entitlement doesn't need to reduce school holidays.

i think you are assuming that Boris does something meaningful when he is not on holiday, which is a big assumption

Tbh if you clocked up the hours most politicians work it'd be more than 90% of professions, Prime Ministers especially tend to do 12 hour days and will still be doing some work every day of the year

Yes, but they get paid all year round.

Once they've made an oath to the Queen, they get full pay whether or not they even attend Parliament.

So technically, although their Parties may object of course and rightly.
They can do as they like.

However, I actually feel for MPs, because the nature of their work is a lot is done in their constituencies.
Which the media and the public don't take into consideration.

They do take holidays but you are right they are not set out.
Of course when parliament is in recess, it would be argued little was being done.
Despite many MPs working away in their constituencies.

There is an exemption I think.
In that if an elected MP won't take an oath of allegiance it is to the Queen.
Then they don't get paid.
I'm pretty sure that applies to Sinn Fein elected MPs currently.

I'm not against MPs having holidays however.
I'd still love to be one someday myself.
I think it's easy to dismiss how stressful it can get.
As all professions can be too of course.

Then at present they need to look out for dangerous maniacs, ready to physically harm or even kill them too.

Teachers aren't on holiday when the kids are... I thought everyone knew that.

They serve their constituents not the country. There's rules in place for important votes that are scheduled when they are on holiday. They have a right to a family life too.

In here, politicians have longer holidays than students.

Their total holiday for one member of a parliament in a calendar year comes to 4,5 months in total.

Where do people get the idea that because parliament is in recess, MPs aren't working? MPs have constituencies, and recess is the best time for them to be there.

The same amount. They're workers too, with families and need to rest too. It's not an easy job, regardless of who you support. Most people who criticize them wouldn't handle such pressure and the working hours on a daily basis anyway.

give em more so we dont have to hear from them as much, and cut their pay accordingly.

Sajid Javid has just taken on a second job at JP Morgan, he clearly can’t be that busy
