She should never have been leader of the Conservatives in the first place. Enoch should have been.

As a Thatcher-aside, didn't Gillian Anderson do a wonderful job of acting as Thatcher having a cerebrovascular incident?

She put us all in debt...affluence for many was just an illusion, look at the amount of repossessions in the 1990s.
Give you the option to buy your substandard expensive to maintain or replace housing stock and then take your means of employment. ...
Nothing she did was ever in the public interest.

Privatisation made a few rich who were rich enough to speculate in the first instance.. money was taken from publically owned industries and infrastructure and funnelled up.

Many saw clearly what was happening but were drowned out the same way they are today.

At least we agree on this Kizzy if we can't agree on carbs. She dazzled the working class with borrowed bells and whistles to keep everyone distracted for long enough to completely reshape the economy in favour of city trading and global neoliberalism, which favours the mega-rich. The wolf is very much at the door to collect now, but people think of it as being "so long ago" that they can't connect the dots and see how Thatcherism, whilst offering the illusion of peace, quiet and security throughout the 90's, is still very much at the root of problems throughout the country today. Their greatest trick was in 2008, convincing the country that Labour was to blame for the ever-rising debt & deficit that can more accurately be traced directly back to the 80's.

Yes she made rich richer, but she also at the same time made the poor richer. Rather than making the rich poorer and the poor poorer..

See still taking funds from local authority from beyond the grave...and following a pandemic when social care funding is on the floor, Grantham should be ashamed of itself for making this a priority!

I don't think selling off the entire country's social housing stock at a massive discount equates to making the poor richer. One small pocket in time. Yes they got to buy their house which is great - but they didn't invest the money in building replacement housing stock, they simply sold it all, and now the vast majority of social housing is in the ownership not of those who live in them, but of private landlords renting out that ex-council stock to people who need - but can't get - a council home because there are none left... at massively inflated rental prices that don't reflect the value of the property whatsoever, with people on low-incomes having to spend up to 50% or more of their monthly funds on rent.

Making the poor richer indeed .

[edit to add] Oh and also, increasingly, those private landlords aren't even UK based. They're foreign investors operating through UK property management companies, funneling vast amounts of rent money out of the country. Thatcher policies.

So that’s £300k on the statue and £100k for the unveiling?

That’s quite a waste of money given the state the country is in at the minute.

Honestly pathetic.

I have strong feelings about thatcher, possibly mainly as my grandad used to talk to me when I was young about her all the time (he was a miner) but this is just childish nonsense.

He never was, thankfully enough, and he'll be remembered as an evil racist **** and hopefully, eventually, forgotten.

I can only hope that vile old racist isn't tainting the unfortunate ground doomed to become his resting place. May the **** rest in piss.
