Why would they take away his title? I don't follow F1 so didn't watch and don't know what happened.

What happened?

Mercedes accuses Red Bull of underfueling Perez's car to hold Lewis back with slow driving

as shady as that ''underfueling'' may seem, i do not think that is against regulations

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mor...cid=uxbndlbing

two protest appeals of theirs were already disputed, but mercedes plan another appeal ahead of a possible legal fight in court

Thumbs up

Hamilton needs to go back to the 80s and listen to musical youth again, so he can learn how to pass the dutchie on the left hand side.

The FIA cheated, they have been so desperate for Verstappen to win this year that they embarrassingly broke their own rules, and knowing that Verstappen was on fresh tires they knew who would win that showdown.

The FIA should at least admit that they ****ed up and promise not to pull a stunt like this off ever again.

A lot of people think it's because of the Netflix show and wanting an exciting end to the next season of that. Bad form

Looks like Masi's job might be in danger, similar incident from 2020 and he did the exact opposite........seeming like he just bends the rules to whatever will cause a more dramatic finish (Netflix hhmmm)

But now an incident from last season – and Race Director’s Masi’s response to it – have thrown his controversial actions from this weekend’s race into fresh doubt.

In October 2020 in the Eifel Grand Prix at Germany’s iconic Nurburgring, McLaren’s Lando Norris suffered an engine failure with fire and smoke coming from his car. He pulled to the side of the road.

Masi ordered a Safety Car while Norris’ car was removed from a dangerous position near the track. Then, he allowed all lapped cars to un-lap themselves – a full 10 of them – in a lengthy process. Norris had retired on lap 44, but it wasn’t until lap 50 that the race was restarted.

At the time, Masi was blasted by fans and a number of teams and drivers for the extremely long period of time the Safety Car was deployed for - more than three laps after Norris’ car was cleared.

Many claimed that he the way he used the Safety Car was deliberately aimed at creating a more dramatic finish. It’s a similar criticism to that aimed at the Australian following this week’s chaos.

But Masi defended himself by referring to the same F1 regulations at the heart of the current saga.

He told Motorsport Weekly after the race: “There’s a requirement in the sporting regulations to wave all the lapped cars past.

“From that point, it was position six onwards that were still running [on the lead lap], so between 10 or 11 cars had to un-lap themselves.

“Therefore the safety car period was a bit longer than what we would have normally expected.”

Crucially, he said the requirement was that all lapped cars must be unleashed to return themselves to the lead lap – the opposite of his controversial actions this weekend.

more drama, more excitement in all fairness

also ''dangerous driving'' that is what racing literally is, a dangerous sport, has been so for many decades

NASCAR, Daytona also have dangerous reckless driving, part of the sport and all competing drivers over there also are very much aware of these dangers

and Michael Masi doesn't hide the fact that he likes a bit of dangerous driving, bit of drama in this sport

same what he also said during abu dhabi race to mercedes's toto wolff over the radio ''its called racing toto''

rules are rules and they must be implemented consistently, particularly when the winner of the championship is being decided.

People will just stop watching it if its fixed

then the current rules must be changed and more into the NASCAR sort of rules

if you take away all the ''dangers'' then it is no longer called racing

I heard that all the owners and drivers have complete faith in the guy - plus there is nobody else who possibly take his place as he’s accepted to be that good .

Apparently all the team owners agreed a short while back that NO race should finish under a safety car ..

Somewhere along the line .. across all forms of sports there comes at time when someone has to make a judgement call .. today it was F1 - The Race Director has the authority to make that kind of decision .

But leaving only 5 of the cars in between Lewis and Max was inconsistent and unfair, not only to Lewis but to the the other cars who weren't allowed to unlap themselves, there were other people racing besides Lewis and Max

To be honest I’m not a F1 obsessive like some but it’s actually made me want to want it more now that Max is on the scene .. at least now we don’t get Hamilton getting pole position then shooting off into the distance in every race ..

But it's still a Sport at the end of the day and it should be fair and consistent not manufactured to create drama like WWE

I can see both sides but as that statement I copied and pasted says - there comes a time when someone will have to make a crucial , final decision ... it happens in cricket , rugby , footie etc

Sure but his decisions are inconsistent and clearly made to cause drama, not in the interest and fairness and safety, both of which, imo, are the most important parts of Sport

Well that last lap restart was due to him being under pressure to not finish under a safety AND being uber careful that the stewards were safe apparently soooooo the poor guy can’t win .

But he then only left some of the lapped cars unlap themselves which wasn't fair on the other lapped cars or Lewis as it was completely designed so that Max could race Lewis on the last Lap, no consideration to the other cars in the race whatsoever. Surely you have to let all of the lapped cars unlap themselves or none of them?

Max won the race fair and square

not his fault that Mercedes are tooo cowardly and not having boxxed Lewis for new tyres after that mess with Perez slowing him down, which could've ended sooner if Lewis paid attention to which direction to turns were heading into rather than going the opposite direction of a turn

Perez was pretty easy to overtake but Lewis didn't see that that was soo hilarious

Mercedes hiring england's best attorney, well 7 colours of **** already from them before the trial

why else would you hire the best of the best attorney if u are soooo ''confident'' that this whole thing was a fix

Michael Masi did nothing wrong, he acted accordingly and also withdrew the safety car in time before the end of the race

that Max did overtake Lewis after the safety car well that wouldn't have happened if Lewis just had fresher tyres, but no Mercedes didn't want to box him for some dumb reason

Surely you have to let all of the lapped cars unlap themselves or none of them?

Well logically it was always going to be about those two ... and quite right imho

why else would you hire the best of the best attorney if u are soooo ''confident'' that this whole thing was a fix

They made the choice of keeping ahead of the pack ( race position) at the expense of his tyres . They made the wrong choice .

These things happen ...

They made the choice based on what the rules were supposed to be
