Now when I did a thread on this when covid was raging in China I was laughed all the way home....dont make the same mistake again and stock up on toilet rolls
![]() Britons should have three days' worth of tinned food and water, government says A new website advising on what to do in an emergency is being launched as part of the government's push to ensure the UK is more resilient to threats. Wind-up torches, tinned meat and bottles of water are just some of the items the government are advising people to stock up on as it urges the public to prepare for emergencies. Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has revealed a new website to advise people on how to protect themselves from various risks, including biosecurity crises, flooding, power outages or another pandemic. The "Prepare" website calls on households to stock up on bottled water, with a minimum supply of three litres of drinking water per person per day, but says 10 litres is recommended for more comfortable levels, for cooking and hygiene. Battery or wind-up torch Portable power bank Battery or wind-up radio - to get updates during a power cut Spare batteries - for torches, radio and any medical equipment First aid kit - waterproof plasters, bandages, thermometer, antiseptic, eyewash, sterile dressings and gloves, medical tape and tweezers Hand sanitiser and wet wipes Bottled water - minimum of 2.5-3 litres of drinking water per person per day. 10 litres per person per day to be comfortable, for cooking and hygiene. More may be needed for baby formula, medical devices and pets Non-perishable food - tinned meat, fruit, vegetables (and a tin opener), pet food Baby supplies - nappies and formula Thousands to take part in pandemic exercise The deputy prime minister is speaking at the London Defence Conference on Wednesday where he will say "resilience begins at home", with a poll by the conference showing only 15% of people have an emergency supply kit in their homes, and more than 40% do not have three days' supplies of non-perishable items. The new website is part of Mr Dowden's push to ensure the UK is more resilient to growing threats, ranging from natural disasters and water outages to conflicts.

Where is a family of 4 storing 120 litres of water
![]() Meh. I'm lucky enough to live within walking distance of a drinkable water source (thus effectively unlimited water) and probably have 5 or so days worth of food kicking about at any given time. If the **** hits the fan so badly that you need a significant amount of stockpile food and water, then all that stockpile is going to do is give you a couple of extra days before you're in the same position as everyone else. |

You go loot a shop and find it empty because everyone else looted it 3 days ago while you were at home sipping Evian
![]() Then you die of thirst ![]() Or head for a clean water source (up some nice hills) - just make sure you boil and sterilise it first as it can still contain parasites. Really if you're going to stockpile something just stockpile a few boxes of water sterilisation tablets. Less than Ł100 will be enough for a whole family for a year at least and you can keep them in a container the size of a shoebox. Last edited by user104658; 23-05-2024 at 03:28 PM. |
