I generally dislike things that seem abnormally big, and also have a fear of very deep water (if you can't see the bottom, I generally do not like it) and really whales just combine those two things in perfect synergy. Bloody massive, AND you can't see it under the water .

In theory I'd like to go on a cruise one day. In practice I'd be sat there staring at the water in existential dread. Especially at night

I think we have the same phobia. I've never been swimming in the sea. It frightens me to go more than a few yards out.

I have a version of this, I'm not afraid of the sea as such but of huge metal things in the sea like Oil Rigs or massive ships, but looking at the outside of them rather than being on one
