Muhammad was the top choice for parents naming their baby boys in England and Wales in 2023, with more than 4,600 children registered with the name. It has been among the top 10 names for baby boys since 2016, but has now overtaken the previous favourite, Noah, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly4g2v0ej6o https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-b2659381.html https://x.com/ONS/status/1864603356133757073 Last edited by Crimson Dynamo; 05-12-2024 at 01:09 PM. |

The reason for this is known and this comes up every year. Boring outrage bait.
If we do need a recap: the myth being sold is that it's Muhammad because there are "so many Muslims in the country". The actual reason for it is that a very high percentage of Muslim parents choose the same name. Whereas (judging by my daughter's school) White British folk seem to be coming up with an ever-increasing variety of names for their kids. I remember when I was at school there were like 4 "Johns", numerous "Williams" etc. but now everyone seems to have a "unique name". Although I will say; there are a tonne of "Logans". Thanks, Wolverine. |

An analysis by The Telegraph found that two of the fastest-growing boys’ names in 2023
were Arabic in origin: Ayman, up 47 per cent, and Hasan, up 43 per cent. Among girls, Arabic names also saw significant growth, with Aizal and its variant Ayzal rising 479 per cent and 183 per cent, respectively. Inaya, meaning “care” or “protection” in Arabic, increased by 48 per cent. But the boys’ name that underwent the biggest increase in popularity was Cassian. |

Found out myself.
If anyones interested. The main difference between the spellings Muhammad and Mohammad is that Muhammad is a closer transliteration of formal Arabic, while Mohammad is more likely to be a transliteration from South Asian languages. The spelling of the name can also indicate a person's origin, with Mohammed being more common for people of Pakistani origin and Muhammed being more common for people from the Middle East. The name Mohamed is of Arabic origin and means "praiseworthy" or "commendable". It is associated with the prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam |

Love how the only person desperate to mention race, mentioned race, before race was even suggested. Man's first though was race???
