Default Does anyone still genuinely enjoy life?

And if so what makes you enjoy it?

Do you still feel good when travelling or is it just an activity to do which is interesting but doesn't bring the same awe ?

Do you still enjoy little walks?

Do you still enjoy shopping in shopping centres?

Do you still enjoy eating out?

Do you still enjoy random days in London or in your town exploring old things and new?

Do you still enjoy cinemas?

Do you still enjoy museums?

Do you still enjoy being by the sea?

Do you still enjoy meeting up with old friends and doing something random?

Do you still enjoy going to concerts or shows?

Do you?

When they happen, which is very rare nowadays sadly for reasons both in and out of my control, I enjoy all of the above.

On the whole though - no, I don't really enjoy my life much at all I feel sorry to say. Grateful to be here, absolutely, but just constantly feeling unfulfilled and "lost".

I do.

It’s very easy to get caught up in the stress and negativity of the world, and see life as mundane. But it’s your mindset on things which makes the difference. Regardless if you are stressed or calm about something, it doesn’t change that something, so I’d rather take it calm and not let it grind me down for no reason. By doing that I appreciate life and enjoy things much more than I did.

It took me a while to adopt that mindset though, and the whole mess that was Covid times really changed me in a bad way at first. I used to be a lot more care-free/free-spirited but as I got older it started to dwindle as “real life” takes over.

Then during Covid it nearly broke me as it left my life thrown upside down and without warning I had to move back to the UK and leave my life behind in NZ.

Getting back to the UK mid covid was awful, plus was start of winter. I found myself feeling so withdrawn and down. I recall going on a walk one day and it was beautiful but I felt nothing, which I never do about nature. It was as that point I decided as crap as it was there’s nothing I could have done, so rather than let it ruin the rest of my life, look for the positives from it all to help enjoy life. I also stopped following/watching the news as it’s all about negativity and I came off social media for a while (I still do social media and news breaks now).

It’s also finding what it is you enjoy in life and making time for it, as it’s so easy to not. I’m really into traveling, hiking, outdoors, gardening etc but it’s not for everyone, and that’s fine.

I don’t do any of the above anymore, however I do still genuinely enjoy life.
At the moment I am away from home and in bed 24 hours a day, probably will be for a wee while yet, but I am genuinely enjoying the fact that I am still alive to see my family and friends every day.
Live life to the fullest you can and be happy.

I still enjoy certain aspects of my life, in particular my family (including my Cat,) and I always like to discuss anything entertainment related with anyone that's willing to listen to my rants.

But in terms of outside activities... Not really.

It doesn't help that where I live, a lot of my favourite places to go have been shut down due to Online versions getting more customers.

…you really are an inspiring person in how you won’t let any negatives take away from those moments of enjoyment…and that enjoyment and positivity and just absolute joy is what your family and friends will feel in visiting in visiting you daily…keep on the up and getting well, dear smudgie…

…it probably doesn’t help that you’ve had such a series of unfortunate events/disappointments and let downs of recent times…they haven’t been small things so it’s understandable that they maybe have tipped a balance to a negative…I know that you have some ‘dream trips’ some destinations and experiences that you’d love to have …and maybe now in restoring that balance, is the right time to work on and help those dreams to become realities and memories…

You have such a fabulous attitude Smudgie

In regards to the OP, I agree with a lot of what Ben said. Life is always full of ups and downs and sometimes it's easier than others to get yourself into a good frame of mind. For me I think the key to enjoying life is to always have something to look forward to, it gets me through the mundane parts.

Yes I enjoy life. I have a lovely family, both immediate and extended. Lovely boyfriend who is probably the nicest person you’d ever meet. We do a lot of things that we enjoy. Cinemas, concerts. We have a lot of trips to London too which I enjoy with him but for the most part I hate London.
We have loads of holidays booked so I agree with Nimah that it’s always good to have stuff to look forward to. And we live by the sea but I’ve spent more time on foreign beaches in the last few years.

We haven't gone on a proper sun holiday since 2019, just before Covid so this summer it's on the cards, I'm absolutely craving sunshine. I think we might go back to lake Como, I love it there

…stuff to look forward to and also ‘goals’ are good…they can start off as very small goals but a sense of achievement is always a feel good and will lead for another goal and another and each achievement building and building the balance of that ‘positive tank’…which counters the negative stuff which every one of us has, also…

Do you still feel good when travelling or is it just an activity to do which is interesting but doesn't bring the same awe ?

Don't do much travelling these days due to caring responsibilities but I like it when we do.

Do you still enjoy little walks?

On a good day sure, on a bad day it makes my foot hurt

Do you still enjoy shopping in shopping centres?

I have NEVER enjoyed shopping in shopping centres, horrible.

Do you still enjoy eating out?

Yes, more than ever if anything 'cos we actually have the money for it these days

Do you still enjoy random days in London or in your town exploring old things and new?

Similar to the shopping centre question - I'm not a huge fan of towns/city centres. So

Do you still enjoy cinemas?

Do you still enjoy museums?

Do you still enjoy being by the sea?

Do you still enjoy meeting up with old friends and doing something random?

Do you still enjoy going to concerts or shows?

Yes to all of those

Hooray, guess I'm not depressed!

This is such an amazing post! Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you're feeling much better than you did during the pandemic. The pandemic broke me and I'm still trying to get back to pre covid where everything seemed easier, even if it wasn't necessarily.

And I agree about taking news and social media breaks. Even when I pick up the news again I avoid reading traumatic stories in depth

On the whole though - no, I don't really enjoy my life much at all I feel sorry to say. Grateful to be here, absolutely, but just constantly feeling unfulfilled and "lost".
I understand that feeling. What are you doing to get out of it?
