The United States Naval Academy base in Maryland has been put on lockdown as an official claims a shooter pretending to be a military officer is going door-to-door on campus.

Multiple sources told Fox News they heard gunshots in the Bancraft Hall dormitories after claims an expelled former student came to campus with a gun.

The Naval Academy announced the lockdown Thursday evening, as local police conducted a search.

'Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy,' a Naval Academy spokesperson said in a statement.

A professor at Texas State University was axed on Wednesday after a video of him allegedly advocating for political violence during a socialism conference went viral.

Tom Alter, a now-former associate history professor at TSU and member of Socialist Horizon, spoke at the online Revolutionary Socialism Conference 2025 on Sept. 7, according to screen recordings shared on X.

During his brief talk, Alter launched into a tirade about the “US Capitalist crisis” that he claimed is exacerbating issues like education, mental health and even basic infrastructure.

“What makes the current crisis an extra problem for capitalists is the willingness of people to fight back,” Alter said.

He presented a rough pitch for how socialists could organize a stronger base within the US and criticized various parties, including the Chinese Communist Party, Democrats and “insurrectional anarchists,” for their half-baked methods of organizing.

Alter wished-washed on his approach and praised other anarchists who had been detained or even convicted for participating in protests

“While their actions are laudable, it should be asked, to what purpose do they serve? Without organization, how can anyone expect to overthrow the most bloodthirsty, profit-driven, mad organization in the history of the world — that of the United States?” Alter said in the full clip posted on YouTube.

The Post reached out to Alter for comment and clarity on his message.

Just four days later, Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse announced that Alter was fired after the administration was made aware of his comments. She said that his assertions counted as “serious professional and personal misconduct,” but didn’t point to any specific university policy he violated.

“Conduct that advocates for inciting violence is directly contrary to the values of Texas State University. I cannot and will not tolerate such behavior,” Damphousse said in a statement on X.

Brian McCall, the chancellor of the greater TSU system, celebrated Alter’s removal and even doubled down, saying that no conduct “intended to incite violence” would be tolerated from any employee.

“Video recordings made public this week in which a Texas State University professor advocated for the overthrow of our government are inconsistent with our shared values and demonstrate egregious personal and professional misconduct,” McCall said in the statement.

Alter is the second professor to be laid off in Texas this week.

Melissa McCoul, an English professor at Texas A&M, was instructing a children’s literature course when a female student noted that she wasn’t sure the presentation concerning gender and sexuality was “legal to be teaching” under President Trump’s numerous DEI orders, according to a video shared on X.

McCoul asserted that the student was “under a misconception” that the instruction at hand was illegal.

The professor added that the student’s challenge against the course material, which had been taken up by the president of the university, would likely not “be effective in stopping me from teaching things that are biologically true,” including that there are more than two genders.

The student was asked to leave the classroom shortly after. McCoul was fired on Tuesday, alongside the Texas A&M College of Arts and Sciences dean and the head of the English Department.

…it’s all very terrifying, isn’t it…not just the killing of Charlie Kirk but that killer could not have been predicted in terms of them only firing one deadly bullet…they could have then turned an automatic weapon(s) into the crowd and taken so many lives…it’s just thank the Lord that didn’t happen but it was all there wide open and enabling for that to happen…

Open carry is very rare. Usually most conceal carry (creates the same issue you are talking about). It's hard for me to personally fathom carrying a weapon as a college student. I don't think I could be fully responsible for a gun in that environment given everything else going on.

That said, concealed carry is really inconvenient so in the vast majority of cases people don't exercise this right. For women, I can see it being more useful for walking to and from courses if they're doing a night study program. But usually for women, it's more common to keep weapons in their vehicle instead as it is considered part of their domicile in a fair amount of states, so thus legal to store in vehicle. But maybe they had history on that campus with someone and so it might be beneficial for them, similar to how some carry pepper spray on their person.

To the second part, I am still processing the idea of that being necessary on campus. We have legalized open carry here and it is incredibly rare to see anyone OC.

Instinctively... I wouldn't say Americans in pro-gun states would have the reaction you mention to the presence of guns at all as they are much more accustomed to it. Comfortable enough some people may even form their own campus security on a per dorm basis to deal with a perceived decrease in safety levels. They do this in some churches.

In middle ground or high gun control states, this wouldn't be a law anyway because guns are more stigmatized there and having gone to college in both environments, the comfort of the students would come first above all. Even if CC were allowed in state (usually requires a reason and lots of paperwork through state police), almost guaranteed schools will have them banned. If it is not something students are culturally adjusted to, it wouldn't be a second thought.

So somewhat related, in TX a local business can by their own choice post up a specific sign with the relevant penal code to make it illegal for armed citizens to carry a firearm on their premises. It's only a Class C misdemeanor, though. There's two, one prohibits Open Carry but allows Conceal Carry. The other prohibits both CC and OC.

For schools I am not sure on laws regarding students here. There was talk of allowing teachers to carry. Not sure if that passed. I can only say for an adult student, the idea they would carry a gun on their person doesn't carry with it the kind of stigma we are talking about that it should effect speech.. if anything, it would make some feel safer. This is why generally though why people widely prefer concealed carry because of the element of mystery (are you armed or not...?)... and in some ways open carry carries more risk because it draws attention to that person and if the weapon is not secured properly in a locking holster, it can be seen so it can taken off of them potentially.
