Lol, you've ruined that for me now. I was an aupair when I was 18, in Boston, I made a really great friend, an Australian girl (still friends almost 30 years later!) But she was aupairing for a Jewish family (who were absolutely lovely btw and looked after me so much when things went sour with the family I was staying with) however back to the story, the first time I had dinner with them involved sweet potatoes and they laughed so much at my reaction to eating them ....awful Awful

Sweet potatoes get a mixed reaction here also, I think. Some do like them but only when they're in candied form, ie butter+cinnamon. A common desert is something like mashed sweet potato with brown sugar, raisins, pecans/walnuts, etc.
